you can replace ur rears with 6x9's with no problems. the stock ones are already 6x9's

as for 2/3/4 way speakers.. that generally means there are more than one speakers attached to one.

ie. 2-way is 1 woofer and 1 tweeter.. 3 way is 1 woofer and 2 tweeters

and so on..

How many 'ways' a speaker has is how many actual speakers there are contained in the main speaker (it does make sense to people who know what I'm talking about).

The main speaker includes the big diaphragm, and that is 1-way. If you know what a normal speaker looks like, you'll see that the whole diaphragm face is free. With a car speaker, there is a separate section coming out of the centre of the speaker. In this contains the midrange, tweeters etc to save space. Unlike a house speaker, its impractical to have all the speakers separate as a 4 speaker system would end up having up to 16 (or 20) actual speakers.

A 2-way speaker has a woofer and a combined midrange/tweeter. A 3-way speaker has a woofer, midrange and tweeter, and having the frequencies separated like that gives better sound quality.

A 4-way speaker system either has a woofer, a midrange and 2xtweeters or a super-tweeter. So in that case, separate tweeters are not necessary. Super-tweaters aren't really that beneficial, as they work at 20,000+ Hz, and humans can't hear that high. A child may benefit from it, but by the time you're at adult the hearing range drops to 18,000Hz? something like that, so that is well and truly covered by normal speakers. The only situation where separate tweeters are beneficial is with creating a more personalised sound field. Having the tweeters separated from the other speakers can sound better, depending on their placement, the other speakers used, and the other speakers locations.

Oh dear god ANOTHER fake/ripoff ebay brand. I wouldn't touch them, they look cheap and nasty (and to be honest, your stock speakers would probably perform better!).
For 6x9's if you get a 2/3 - way you WILL NOT need a tweeter as they are built in (as explained above). I recommend 3 - ways as it'll seperate the sound abit better.
As for which speaker to get, entry level pioneer gear is ok. Haven't tried any of the jaycar 6x9's but i heard they can go alright for their price.

Yeh Sony xplode 6x9's run well off of headunits. My mate had 6" in the door and 6x9's, they went pretty darn loud considering. Only draw back is the bass is loud but not clear.

hey mate,

If you're looking at getting a good set of 6x9's go get yourself a pair of last years pioneer 3ways. I've got them in my TE at the moment and they give you pretty good sound quality for their price (they're only about $89 at strathfield now  ). Plus they handle about 40RMS so if you're not amping them you should be able to crank it up and not do damage lol

I had the same speakers and yeh they are pretty good if you don't plan on amping them (i had them amped but running HPF so it was good).

If anyone wants some older Pioneer 6x9's, I can sell them for $35?

I upgraded to some $250 kickers, so these need to go.

Already on for sale forum, but its relevant here I guess.. so thought I'd let yous know! :D
