hey all, im new to this forum i got a 88 magna elante and ive got a problem. when i got the car i knew the fuel gauge didnt work, well it would go up to 3/4 on a full tank and when it droped to about 1/2 a tank i would stay on the "off" position not on the E on off. ne way i went to the wreccas they other day and got a fuel sender unit off of a TN elite and installed that. but now it only just goes to the E even tho theres a full tank. but when we took the old unit we noticed that the spring was worn so that might be why that ones not working. so if the sender unit i got off the elite is working probably wot else can it be???. ive also heard of short circuiting the fuel gauge to see if thats working probally but how do i do that?.

oh the fuel lights NEVER come but b4 we installed the 2nd hand unit we tryed it out of the tank and the light came on then and the gauge moved a bit so we just put it in fully and now the light doesnt come on at all!!

Should I just take the sender unit back and get another or try sum thing else

thanx alot

Can't help you with the fuel guage glitch, but a workaround would be to use the tripmeter, and fill it up every 400km or so.

hey,
thanx 4 the welcome :p , yer i have been using the trip meter, well ive had to. So ive decided to take it out and take it back and go to a proper mitsu wrecca and see if they can help me out but ill look in the gregorys for the wiring diagram for the gauge and see if its the wiring (i hope not  )

thanx

the problems fixed :D . i found out that the one from the elite was 1/2 stuffed and only works probally wit the electronic dashes so i took it back and went to mitsi-bits (there great got my alternator from there 2, they test everything and have a 3month warranty. there down the road from u-pull-it) there at 16 Christie Rd Lonsdale SA.
And i know my low fuel light works now i just wish i had the money for it to never come on
