I'm trying to locate both these on my injected 2.6 TR. The manual is not clear on this. The pic shows what I believe to be the right locations. Or do I have them reversed? Can someone check for me?

Other way round.

TPS is on the end of the throttle spindle and the ISC at the lower left.

Actually, does anyone know where the best place to get replacements for these in Brisbane would be. I'm very new to the car parts scenes and don't know where to look.

Thanks

The usual. Wandering idle speed, rough idle, strong vibration on acceleration from a dead stop.

Hey mate,

The TPS affects this - usually builds up with massive greeny colour deposits - hence why alot of Magna's gain that crap idle

Especially when stopped at the lights.

Try these people for cheap parts:

I bought a TPS for $200 instead of $400 from mitsubishi and it has lasted over a year

good luck with it

Is it possible to remove and clean it?

Also, if replacing is it a simple bolt in job?

It's all explained in this thread:

Some more in this one:

It can be cleaned, however I cleaned it once and it only went away for a few weeks/months. If your car is 300,000KM and has never had it replaced I suggest buying a new one for $200. Same goes for the ISC, even the Pvc valve and injectors cleaned.

Use the search button on the menu to find anything your looking for, you will be suprised how many ppl have had the same issues, in all gens of magna's

do a check. wiggle the tps connector with the engine running and if it stalls its the connector. mines mcf**ked. the car only runs properly when the connector is in one spot. havent gotten round to replacing it. the green stuff is corrosion and it ruins electrical contacts. (studying electrical engineering). use contact cleaner available from dicksmith and jaycar etc and wait for it...a toothbrush of the hard variety. spray with contact cleaner and scrub. also do the one that goes on your distributer as mine was bad as well. does any one know how much just the connecter is for the tps

i have a brand new TPS here from my TR but never used it ... make an offer and it's yours ... i bought it a few years ago from mitsu for $350 i think and no longer have the car so i'd like to get rid of it

I had a wiggle of the TPS yesterday morning. Was just seeing if I could get the connector off, but was about to go out so didn't go all the way with it. I actually accidentally broke of some of that black plastic wrapping and exposed the wires leading into the connector. everythings a bit brittle on a 14 year old car!

Any I reckon the car is running just a liitle bit smoother now. Maybe i nudged somethin the right way? So I'm going to get some cleaner like Stereo God suggests, and grab a multimeter and do the tests referred to in the links Russian has posted. If that doesn't work I may was take you up on your offer Colgate.

Sometimes I feel like buying an 1989 Camry wagon with a 5 speed... and getting rid of the old Maggie.

tape up the broken part and use boiling hot water to clean it out if its green for now anyway

and spray some wd40 to stop it going green again

Wouldn't water create a short somewhere?
