hi all
Ive been browsing throught the forums and ive seen a few people have tinted their tail lights. i was wondering 1) how everyone has done it?
2) how easy is it to do? ( as i am easily frustrated)
3) how long did it take to do?
4) how much did it set you back?
All feed back is welcome as well as ideas
Thanks all
Uncle Andy

You will need a can of Night Shades, About $13 a can.

Take the Rear lights out (4 nuts, 10mm i think from under the carpet) Give them a wipe over with prepsol (Wax And grease Remover)
The give it 3 Light coats, of course waiting for each one to dry in between.

Always wait for each coat to dry becuase As it Drys it gets darker.

After this, it will be a matt Finish. To make it a nice shiney clear finish, get some K&H Top Coat Clear (Arcrylic) paint, and give it 4+ coats!
DO NOT USE THE CHEAP $3 AUSSIE EXPORT ENAMEL CLEAR!!!!!

And after that they shall look sweet!!!

may i also recommend you tint the garnish aswell (aswell only a few nuts) so it creates a nice smooth flowing line

I disagree with the cheapo clear paint. I used a three dollar can two weeks ago on my tail lights and they turned out really good. smooth as, shiny as. im happy with them. i think the cheap stuff is bad if you put way too much on in one spray.

I admit i used the cheap stuff on my console and i sprayed to close in one point and it went a yellow colour, but the rest looks good.

I wouldnt take the risk...not enamel over arcrylic.....im no paint expert but ive done it once and it doesnt come anywhere near as classy as when done with arcrylic.

but hey do it if you want:)

Although It may look cool, to me tinting your tail lights/indicators is a backwards step.

Don't tint them too dark!

I wish they made altezzas for 2nd gens...

It's probably a good idea to source some extra lights, just in case you get defected for them and have to swap them out.

That's the reason I bought mine from Grant Walker... I still have the original tail lights if I have to replace them at any time.

cheers,

are the second gen blinkers held in by a spring with a hook on the end? first gens are so they can't (well not easly) fall out. maybe ur is missing and u just need to pay the wreckers a visit, and i bet they won't charge ya cos it's a very smaal part.
