Talking about the "Garnish" here...I want to get a chrome one for my TE which currently has a worn matte grey one...I want to find one from an Altera (chrome) from a wrecker but I dunno if there are many Alteras in wreckers....

How can I get my hands on one otherwise?

Above the number plater there is the plastic bit that says magna which is about 35cm or so long. When I purchased my TE is was all worn and gray and I would like to replace it with a silver one, preferable get my hands on one from a car yard. Is it easy to remove that peice and reattach a new one? If so how is it done?

Thanks
Try doing a search for boot garnish. I think that's what the piece is called.

It is easy. a couple of nuts undone from within the boot lid and it will pop right out.

if u want a silver one then pop it out and spray it urself, AFAIK unless u get one off a colour coded silver car, the rest were just grey too. If u meant a chrome one, the Altera models came out with chrome ones, or u can get a verada one that has VERADA in it

no probs mate there are about three bolts inside the boot
off the top of my head i used a 10mm socket on a ratchet with a long extension
and if ya mean the chrome strip for a replacement i rang my local dealer a few weeks back and the quoted me around $40 brand new

how hard/expensive would it be to fill in the magna part to make it smooth then paint it silver like colour code it?

Putty the Magna letters in carefully, prime the whole thing, give it a slight sanding (to give it a shinier look), prime again. Let dry, then paint several times with LIGHT coats of paint (let dry in between each time) and your done. I suggest you buy a cheap one from the wreckers to try it out, cos if you **** it you're stuffed lol And if you get it right first go, then you can just use it then.
