Sorry.. a bit of a long one..

I took my TJ wagon to Penrith Mitsubishi this morning to see if they can do something about my passenger seat vibration, crappy radio reception and the cargo interior light (wagon) seems to stop working until you tap it and it comes back on..

Well after unlocking the car with the remote and showing the service quy - look it works if you tap it - so can't be the globe (anyway i've replaced the globe already) when trying to lock the car the remote no longer worked.. Lucky enough the service guy saw me unlock the car so thought it was strange that it would suddenly stop working - he took the remote appart but reckons it looked fine - he suggested I try the spare one.

Well same problem with the spare remote.. So I tried reprogramming the remotes (you know.. the AC to ON three times thing). Every time I press the remote while trying to reprogram I hear a beep - no flashing of the blinkers which is what it is supposed to do. Hmm.. And they don't work..

So I try again and notice that everytime I turn the ignition on the trip computer is asking me to setup if the car is a sedan or wagon (and 3.0 or 3.5 engine). Everytime I set it and turn the ignition off it asked me again next time I turn it on.. Crap..

I also notice that locking the car with the key only locks the front doors.. The rear doors and tailgain don't lock - hmm.

And to top it all off... none of the interior lights now work - but the fuse is fine!!!!!!! What is going on here.
I was playing with the map light button (which also doesn't come on when depressed) but now when you press it the fuel guage drops from full to empty (just filled up car). Interestingly when I turn the ignition off and back on (and have to set the sedan wagon again for the tenth time) the fuel gauge works again.. turn the map light on and fuel goes to empty again..

I can't find any broken fuses but will try again with a multimeter tonight..

Anyone seen any of this before?

Thanks mutchly..

Warranty, if Penrith are no good, go to another Mitsu dealer :D

They don't seem happy about it... Mentioned it could take a few days too.. Great :-(..

I just thought some of the gurus around here might know bits about how all this fits together - the service guy at Mitsubishi seemed really confused...

Thats not the point, if their not happy about it. Your car isn't working

I'd also be asking for a loan car aswell.

ok i had a bit similar issues but it was due to one fuse only.

what happend: cabin globe stoped working. alarm wont work, centre locking not working,

changed the globe = sparked and gone.

went to mitsu and they were dickheads , told me to bring car after 3 days as they are flat out.

i beged them telling alarm wont work, centre locking not working, what if the car will get stolen, i cant drive to any where. but no they wont listen.

came back home

opend the fuse box and checked every singleone of it , and found out that cabin globe fuse was blown , changed it , every thign okay.

so my advise, start with the basics, but if th ecar is in warranty take it to mitsu

Amazing...

After checking all the fuses in the passenger compartment twice I decided to check out the fuse box in the engine bay.. Guess what.. One of the fuses (a 15 amp light - no other description) was blown.

This pretty much fixed it - but I can't believe it also controlled the trip computer and the bloody door locks!!!!!!

Thanks everyone for all your help.. I'll still take the car in to try and get something done about the rear cargo lamp that caused all this hassle plus still want to try and get the radio and shaking passenger seat fixed...

One thing I did notice though - and was hoping one of you guys might know what it is.. When looking at the passenger fuse box there is a clip on holder which clips on the main passenger fuse box (but doesn't have a cover like the main passenger fuse box).. It contains one fuse - a 20 amp yellow one and three other blank fuse spots.. On the rear there are two wires coming out of the box (right opposite the socket with the fuse in it) that go into the wiring harness..

Anyone know what this might be for? Nothing mentioned in the manual at all!!!!

Chris.

Glad you got it fixed, as someone said earlier check all the basics first. On modern cars a blown fuse can really stuff up your day. I wouldnt be taking my car back to Penrith Mitsu even for warranty work. The service thay gave you stinks. As your first POC they should be bending over backwards to help you. I remember taking my TE in for its last service to the dealer prior to the warrantty running out. I went over the car very carefully and found an engine oil leak. When I asked them to fix it I got told that it was minor and was not covered by warrnty. I stood my ground and they fixed it. I am not saying Mitsu dealers are any worse or better than any others. I think it depends on the individual dealer.

Good advise Manual. I also tried your previous hint to stop squeeking brakes by spraying WD-40 on them - and voila, no more squeaks.
Thanks for that.
Now I would need to find out how come the car is not stopping that well anymore.

Other than that, the tyre is only flat on the bottom side, the upper section is ok. Ok to drive?

Hihihihihihi....... ;)

Ahhh - that's the mirror image sanskrit in size 2 font?
Ok - eye sea now.
So, you reckon I should not go ahead and install that steam turbine forced air induction device nicked form the 1800 Century ship wreck you send me? It did look a bit rusty and the idea of pulling it on a trailer did seem bit excessive. :?
Maybe I should resort to a bicycle? This car stuff just confuses me. Friday and XMas party and all.
