Got some new monroe GT gas shocks to put all round, any tips before I put them in?
I have the spring compressor gadget to compress the springs and just about every other tool known to man,,,lol

The springs are new too, superlow fronts and low rears, kingsprings.

Also have the gregories manual.

Just need to know if anything out of the ordinary happens when doing these?

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers.

everything is pretty straight forward

just make sure you align the strut top holes otherwise you will get a very nasty clunk

also make sure you get a wheel alignment straight away...but i bet you already knew that :P

Wheel alignment isn't terribly needed, but cant hurt. There is not a lot to adjust on a 3rd gen, so all they can do is losen bolts and use the play within to set each side identical.

Your toe wont change, and from memory that is the only adjustable item on a 3rd gen but it has been a while and I could be wrong.

be carful using spring clamps as if they let go they can do some nasty damage to you..

Make sure you grab as much spring as possible with the clamps. When I did my 2nd gen the other weekend, I didn't grab enough spring on the first one so it was a bit of bother getting it back together again.

I just had King Spring lowering springs and Monroe GT Gas shocks installed last week in my KJ Verada. I've always thought you should wait a week or two before getting a wheel alignment done to let the lowered springs settle a bit. Is this true?

Hey guys, just put them in today, how easy is that, around an hour a corner.

Makes an absolute huge difference to handling, my old shockies must have been completely stuffed.

Also I had NO bumpstops, NONE, no wonder I got terrible banging going over sharp bumps.

But all is good now, it is a beautiful ride.

Thanks guys.:D

Hey guys,

Not hijack your thread here but I have a prob with mine and am worried I have buggered up. Just didn't want to start another suspension thread and seems to be like it's been done here.

I just installed new springs. the handling is SO much better but when I turns from lock to lock the right one moves. sounds horrible and pretty certain it ain't good for it. I've asked a mate and he said to just ignore it till they "settle" but I don't think so.

The flattened end of the spring does go up the top doesn't it. bottom cup does have the groove for the end of the spring so thought I couldn't go wrong. (old ones were really XXXX'd and can't 100% that they were correct)

Could it be the rubber seat needs to be replaced?? or should I just be ingoring it??

ur strut insulators could be gone, or the spring and stut are't alinged properly. a mecanic put some new struts in for me but did't do it right and when ever i turned the wheel the spring would pop out of the strut:nuts:

Hey buddy, that plate that is at the very top with the three studs, it can only go ONE WAY, this is very easy to fix, take it out again, not the spring, and at the top there is a little rubber grommet, it is small, this grommet should face to the side of the vehicle.

When doing them it is good practice to mark one of the stud bolt heads with a nikko pen and near the hole that it goes into, this way you can never go wrong.

Do fix this as soon as possible though, the reason for the noise is because that plate at the top is not perfectly flat, it is on a slight angle, thats why your getting the noise, cause when your turning your wheel it is moving the bottom section out of alignment, just check all your rubber mountings down the bottom too, they might have sustained some damage.

OK at the sake ok sounding stupid, by Strut insulators are you meaning the rubber seats that sit under the spring in the cup? If so you probably right they are looking a little worn, just didn't think they were that bad.

As for not lined up properley I am a bit unsure how. The bottom cup has the indent in it to seat the end of the spring in and the top section will only go on one way. Yet again I am going to risk stupidity; Please tell me I haven't put them up side down. The bottom had the groove in it which made me assume that it was for the open end of the spring, ie that the flattened down is up the top which had no indent.

The old springs were crapped out completely so I don't think it mattereed which way up because the weight of the car flattened them out so it wouldn't have mattered if it was up the wrong way.

I would have to agree with Nevyn, that make sense.

Well I now request the prize for major F up for this month.

Yes they were up side down.

So what do I win??
