View Full Version : Timing belt location
I don't know how the cambelt goes on... I have messed with it for hours... could someone be nice enough to take some pics or link me, or describe where exactly the belt goes??? I have put a loop through the engine mount and it goes over the left cam gear then clockwise it runs under the water pump, over the right hand side cam gear, then down to the crankshaft and then to the inside of the pulley and back under the cam gear through the engine mounting. I have double checked its the right belt, it's the Bosch one for the Diamante/3000GT (6G72 SOHC... it's the right one)

clearly you didn't look at how the old one came off???
check the haynes manual... (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37248&highlight=manual) go there... and download it.. it will show you how to put it on... timing and so on and so forth
Yea I forgot. Does the timing belt loop through the engine mount somehow? I'm sure I have it right, but there is something minor which isnt letting me get it in right. Close-up of someones engine mount where the cam belt is would be good.
I got a 42mb manual... that might be the same one I think.

did you unbolt the engine mount? or did you chop the old belt and pull it out?
Didn't unbolt the mount... when I went to turn the engine over to undo the crank pulley bolt, I chopped the belt so there wouldnt be much excess incase stuff went flying... Didn't think to check out how it come off. It's pretty tough working an extra 6 hours a day or so on your car, losing sleep... but I'm gettin there!

lol i know what u mean.
ul need to prop your engine, and then unbolt that mount. refit the belt and then bolt the mount back on.

Wicked, thanks alot mate... that's what I thought, but I remember not having to get it off by undo-ing the mount, but I DID CUT IT! Engine bay is nearly done.
If I didn't touch the dizzy, then I can alight the cams and crank to TDC and just start her up hey?

Pretty much mate. once the belt is on and tensioned, just turn the crank a few times with a big mother of a spanner. if you feel any resistance it means a valve is hitting the top of the piston. if that happens, ul need to redo or TDC.
if no resistance is felt, youre good to go :D
