Hey guys,

The bottom end bearing in my engine went the other week, so I went out and purchased a used 107,000 km motor to replace it. Now, this weekend, im planning on doing the engine swap, is there anything I need to watch out for when I do the change? By the way, its a Manual 3.0L.

Cheers.

all i can say is label all your wires and anything else that will need to be hooked back up.
its a slow process but worth it when it comes round to hooking everything back up.
and of course drain the fluids.

Ok thanks.. Ive started labeling all the wires with my dymo label maker :D

Is it going to be easier to lift the car up over the engine, or the engine out of the engine bay?

Engine out of the engine bay would be alot easier.

Ok, im progressing slowly in this so far. The engine is out and the gearbox is removed. Would anyone be interested in me posting pictures and details of my progress? Or has this been done on the forums before?

Ok great, i'll get some pics and steps ive taken posted up later this afternoon.

Also, the old motor had only done 178,000kms. A 4WD side swiped me and the day after, it started to make a horible bottom end rattle under acceleration. I took it to a mechanic, and he advised that the bottom end bearing was starved of oil. Likely caused by the impact of the 4wd and knocking some carbon into one of the galleries.

Unfortunately, the insurance had lapsed by 5 weeks, so really, its my own stupidity, and because the other guy was on a suspended L license, his insurance wont pay out. So im stuck and financing the repairs myself.

Pictures will be coming, I just want to get everything installed and working first, at the moment, were having problems getting the engine back in. Trying to align the motor up with the rear and front mounts is proving very difficult. :doubt:

Wooh, engine is back in and bolted down. Transaxle has been pieced back together. All I need to do now is connect the hoses, electricals and bolt back on the aircon and power steering pump.
