hey guys,
Would any of you'se know how much power a 3L manual would gain from a performance chip?
thanks

More power, more fuel use, more emmisions, more chance your gunna speed.
Your motor can't just magically make more power, however, if your not worried about fuel...
However, my mate got about 10KW extra out of her Ford GT I think...

While that's usually true a chip can sometimes gain both power and economy. Magna's run a little rich from factory, helps prevent damage to the motor from running lean. So if you re-tune to run optimum, you would see some improvements. Not sure if this could actually damage the motor in certain conditions though? If you got a chip, i think someone said about 5-6kw gain. Which for $1000 plus isn't really THAT good of an investment unless you plan on doing some serious work down the track.

yeh, in the 3rd gens people have said they have had gains of over 15kw, but yeah talking to the old owner today and he told me it has a chip on it, and is it normal for TS to idle at 1000rpm?
If Magna's run lean... then hook up a petrol electric blower in your boot!!! Make an extended pull start on her, and just start her up at the lights when the car next to you is givin you the eye and revvin the motor. You WILL get decent power from a leaf blower in the boot. Go check out movies of dyno tested vehicles with leaf blowers.
Probably will blow up your motor though, so I wouldn't do it =)

probably about 10kwatw, it'll be a better drive and also you'd definately find your economy improving when you dont give it a bootfull, when giving it such, it'd subsequently be worse

I guess it'd depend on the chip. What make, etc.
eBay chips - I doubt much.
If you go to the Powerchip Australia website, it quotes an increase from the standard 120kw to 134kw and torque increase from 235Nm to 258Nm for a cost of $890.
But reading the many posts here on AMC, some doubt these figures as the chips are made for a generic Magna rather than being tuned for your Magna. So maybe slightly less than quoted. Most here would recommend you spend the money (and maybe a bit more :doubt:) on something like Haltech which can be tuned to your Magna. Not sure of the increase from these.

people should call powerchip and talk to them instead of making up stories on other threads...
powerchip can adjust the tune of the chip to suit mods and put different maps on to std... on 3rd gens they dont do a chip, the supply a piggy back...
i have had a powerchip on a car i just sold.... no way did it get the 11kw @ 15nm but it was definatley much stronger at 6k and would pull a higher gear up the test hill.... (long story)
i wouldnt guess on the peak power gain, but PEAK power means nothing... it's what you gain throughout the rev range... it did use 1L more per 100km though not less....
in my cars case the timing was altered, the low/mid range was richened up... and the top end was leaned out, and could only run 98ron fuel...... although it only had regular when i did the chip as i needed some and the servo didnt have premuim..... anyway it didnt ping so it was all good....
but for the minimal gain the $$$ were to much i reckon

dude your on drugs, i wasnt having a go at you... i did a search on chips a while ago and there was some posts that were made by people who have had no experience with the chips at all and are just repeating what a mate said or something....

the car needs need to be upgraded overall, out of the stock standard equipment, its not a must BUT too notice the difference and actually maximise its performance with a chip then this is what to do.
that is all

that was the quoted figure from the powerchip website for my old car....
i'd say it actualy got about 3-5kw and 7-9nm extra... there was a noticable increase but nowhwere near whats quoted...
i did some research before i got mine and at the very most you will get about half of whats quoted, still a gain... but cai and extractors etc... will be more effective....
the main benefit of a chip is that its stealth and the insurance company/police etc... dont and wont know about it

Quite a few people actually.
As others have said, you're better off doing your intake, extractors and exhaust and then getting the chip. You will see alot more of a gain AND you don't have to pay to get the chip re-tuned.

Just relax mate. Andrewd wasnt having a go at anyone. What he said about word of mouth from mates and stuff is exactly right, and i think it would be best to talk to a professional who installs chips and what-not to get their advice and knowledge on the 6G72 sohc upgrade options.

Ahhh fair enough then, so have you installed the exhaust yet or did it come with the car or just contemplating it? I wouldn't go more than 2 1/2 inch for your car. With chip you'll see some gains, but i wouldn't get hte chip retuned until you had more mods on the car.
