G'Day guys,
1st time poster, only because magna's not let me down so far.

I've got a TN wagon for my daily and was giving it a bit of stick the other day in second and went for 3rd gear and it went it but felt like nothing when changing. Let clutch out and car just revved, then I went thru box trying all gears, would only go in fifth. So hobbled it home got it up on stands and checked linkages, they seem fine and I removed them to select gears my hand at g/box still seems I can only get one gear which im assuming is 5th because at 60km/h it sits on 2000rpm

All other gears burn clutch out, wheels will not turn even off ground, and car will stall itself when clutch is let out.

The kicker to all this is that even when the car is in neutral, its still in a gear as it will stall if clutch isnt in when in neutral.

Is this a common problem? Is my gearbox stuffed? I've got a manual for the TM which so far hasnt helped much in finding the issue.

I just need my daily back.

All and any help appreciated.

Cheers
Rhys

Slave appears to be working and has no fluid loss around its seals. M/cyl still has fluid. I would have thought of these but I can clutch in and out of the gear it seems to be stuck in but all other gears seem to be lost?

Other thing is there was no noise no bangs, nothing when it happened.

But if it was the clutch should I still be able to select all gears when car is off? Then start up and with wheels off ground they should spin. I would have thought it would have no dirve at all in any gear if it was clutch or pressure plate? But still have full use of 5th.

Nope can't get reverse either. Will just stall itself when letting clutch out.

As Buffy said its hard to tell without rippen her out but if you lucky you've just broken the selector mech.

If so you could get a shagged gbox from the wreckers for ****spence and change em.

The lack of a bang or grinding lends me to thinking selectors.:D

Buffys the man for advice on removal.:D

Hey buffmeister...can he get at the selectors without removing the box?

Today I bled the clutch system but didn't help. I still have the same gear and no others in 3rd 4th and neutral any other gear it locks wheel up and stalls.

Clutch works as it used to being able to clutch in and out of the 1gear I have.

So now Im think like what has been suggested that maybe the selector is internally broken and locked in one gear as it seems up and down movement of g/stick from 3rd to 4th through neutral is all the same gear but as soon as I move shifter to side then up or down it will stall car will clutch released.
So to me im guessing that it is broken.

Your thoughts?
What should I expect to pay for a 2nd hand 5spd? Anyone got one in Adelaide?
If not I might sell car as a wreck either on here if anyone wants it or to wreckers.

Pic attached of its worst side.

Yeh I can do it, but seems like a bit of work if I need a new box. I down to cost&time vs. wrecking it and starting fresh.

I don't really want to spend $300 on a gearbox plus a decent whack of my time when I could probably only sell the car for $500 or $600 bucks in working condition. It just seems like its not worth it at that cost.

If on the other hand I could get a cheap box I'd consider fixing it.

Would you consider g/box removal in my Magna a big job? I know Escorts like the back of my hand, but this cars never broke so its fairly foreign to me.
