Will a TJII VRX engine bolt into my KE 3.5L and just run?

Or am i going to need to fiddle with annoying stuff like ECU etc?

My engine is getting a little tired, and also needs a timing belt.

Hi there luke, yes it would bolt straight up to your auto box. wouldn't have to chance the ECU. :D same wires everythink.

if you are going for an engine swap you might aswell go for like a mivec conversion or something like that, of course you would need to change the ecu etc, but would be worth the extra dollars!!

why not dump an sr20 in there and convert it to rwd drive, it would drive good and very easyily modified

First of all the engines aren't the same, the vrx engine (in your car) will produce 155kw, whereas your 3.5 is only 147kw. As far as i'm aware this is because of 2 things, a cam upgrade and a re-tune of the ecu. So i'm not sure if just replacing the engine will get the full 155kw (assuming it's still running at optimum). FYI the vrx engine is identical to ANY series 2 TJ, TL and TW.
In the big scheme of things, i don't think it really matters what 3.5L engine you put in, it's not going to make much of a difference, unless of course it's a ralliart engine :).

Not looking at performance, I know it should be about the same.

Its just my engine wasnt terribly well looked after by previous owners, and has over 200,000kms. AND its timing belt time.

I can pick up this engine reasonably cheap and its got less than half the KM's AND got a new timing belt. So probably will only be a few $100 more than a timing belt change anyway.

Gotta count the pennies first.

You cant really call it a VRX engine really, it's a TJ, TL, W engine, just the rear muffler is different for the extra power, 163kw vs 155kw.

Why kind of retarded answer is that? :gtfo:

I say go for it man. If you can get the engine cheap it'll work out well.

Great idea, why not just whack a TR/TS V6 in it?

"The SR20DE (non-turbo motor) featured only 165 hp (121 kW)."

Yah i said that :). That's why i said the "vrx engine" will only output 155kw in his car, opposed to the 163kw you get with an actual vrx (like you said because of muffler).

Actually, It'll probably out more than 155kW - see my signature :)
