G'day all,

Got my first real problem to post about.

Lately when i go to start the car the engine just turns over and doesn't fire up... just keeps cranking over....

After two or three (sometimes more) goes at trying, it eventually starts and off she goes. It's slowly getting worse as in nearly each time i go to start it it does it as apposed to once in a blue moon.

Anyone know what the problem is or experienced it before??

Oh and by the way the problem has occured before now but was around the time i wired up my driving lights so obviously disconnected the battery for that and hasn't mucked up since so obviously disconnecting the battery fixes the problem..... for a while anyway. I haven't checked this time as I haven't any tools in the car with me at the moment so i haven't disconnected the battery. Will do it tomorrow if i can and see if it makes any difference.

Anyways any help at all would be great guys
Cheers

I had a similar problem with my old 95 lancer.. Turned out to be a faulty battery..

When you checked the volts all seemed ok.. But the minute you put some load on the battery (like when you crank it over) it would sometimes not crank over first go or if it did would take ages to crank - worse on colder days.

Looks like one of the plates in the battery was stuffed...

If you are an NRMA member call them out to have a look (it is free) and they can test your battery for ya.

I had the issue of my car not firing - it would roll over but not fire sometimes - didn't matter if it was warmed up, cold or anything - turns out it was faulty wiring on the immobilesr and it wasn't disengaging on the factory immobiliser so the fuel pump wasn't engaging!

I got the clip solderd and it works fine now - no issues since - not sure if this is the same issue but it happened to me!!

Brother had a funny issue that his battery would die overnight. Alternator would charge it but a few autoelec's thought it was the alternator that was faulty. Turned out it was the regulator or something like that.

I had the same issues with my Galant. Turned out my ECU had fried and poped a few electrolitic capacitors. Are you getting spark? How much voltage are you getting accross the battery? Are you getting fuel delivery to the fuel rail? Are you getting a pulse on your injectors? A few things to look at there anyways. PM me if you want any help.

Could also be a problem with the battery not having enough charge to turn over the motor and trip the relays that control the ect and pump, this is comon in Falcons, need about 11v to trigger the relays.

Could also be a fuel problem where it is draining back to the tank, this is caused by the valve on the fuel pump being faulty or the pressure reg being faulty, a pressure test will tell you, should hold pressure for a few minutes after turn off.
