At the risk of sounding stupid, what is the difference between "coilover kits" and buying just a new set of springs and shock absorbers. For example at Phillcom, springs and shocks are aprrox about 800-900, where a coil over kit is $1650

Can someone justify the extra cost for me please, because my suspension is a piece of **** at the moment, so I just want to get rid of it and starta new :)

Coilovers are springs and struts in one unit. The spings are generally a much narrower diameter than your standard springs.

Depending on what version you get, coilovers are also height adjustable, and possibly rebound and dampening adjustment.

Upgraded springs + "sports" shocks = good handling

Street spec coilovers = full height adjustable, okay handling

Sport spec coilovers = limited range of height adjustability, rebound/bumb adjustment, very good handling
