My car aerial snapped the other month and i only just got around to buying a new one... The issue i have is how to get whats left of the old one out of the actual antenna base thats holding it in... My local mitsu dealer said to apply a liberal amount of elbow grease (tm) and it should come free but, the base snapped off pretty much flush and i cant get anything onto it to pry it free. Any hints would be greatly appreciated! :D

im assuming its a 3rd gen.
but what exactly do you mean by snapped of at the base.
maybe a photo would help sort the problem easier, but if you mean that only the part that only comes out of the base is broken the all you need to do is:
when i did this to fix my mums magna i layed aan old cloth around what was left of the base as not to scratch or mark the paint and used a set of multi grips. it takes a while but it unscrews.
open your boot and remove your carpeted side its held on by a couple of plugs.
off the top of my head the bracket is held on by two bolts at the top i think 10mm and 1 screw thats in the floor.
the bracket should come away.
your antenna should have come away freely by now, unplug the antenna cable that is in the side and hook up your new one according to its instructions.
i hope this is a bit of help, all you really have to do is look and you will quickly see how everything comes away.
just reverse the process to reinstall the rest back in.
i did it for the first time by myself and it was pretty straight forward.

Yep it is a 3rd gen. What the dealer supplied me with is only the mast. Not the actual body of the antenna. What they said was to get a pair of plyers on to what was left of the mast and pull it out of the antenna body. This is the part im having difficulty with as the old mast snapped cleanly off the antenna body and flush with it. So i cant actually get anything to grip onto the old snapped piece of mast. This is my dilemma.
