OK now i was driving to my Gf's house last week when all of a sudden all sound cut out of my stereo, but the HU was still on.
I turned the HU off and turned it back on and still nothing. put the radio on, new cd in....then a dvd and still no sound...but the HU seems fine.
the next morning i turned on the stereo and it was fine. but 20 seconds into the song and it all cut out again. This happend 3 times times within 1 hour.
I checked all the RCA's and speaker inputs on the amp and they were all fine. checked power cable and earth into the amp and was fine also. but when the HU is on....there is no light on the amp.... so i checked the trigger and fine also!
put the amp into M4DDOG's car and it ran all of his speakers very well.
has this ever happend to anyone? does anyone have any ideas on what it could be? im going to pull it all appart tomorrow and see what is wrong...im thinking bad earth to chassis....
any help will be much apprieciated!
cheers, anthony

Has to be something like wiring, like speaker wiring or ground/power wiring. Shame we didn't get time to hook my amp up to your speakers. It is a strange occurance. Worked perfectly fine hooked up to my stereo which is pulling similar juice.

it sounds to me like you have a bad power/ground connection. check the grounds and make sure there is not paint around the connection on the chassy. my mono block keep cutting out when i added an extra sub in, but only the subs would stop working the amp light will still be on . Its all good now you should just play around with the settings if its not a bad ground causing your problems. what type of power wiring are you using?

im using 4ga cables. i only have one 4ch amp and its earthed to the chassis by a piece of 4ga about 400mm long. i was thinking maybe there was a bit of corrosion between the terminal and chassis?? could that have anything to do with it???

Corrosion is always bad with electrical stuff! Are you in cranbourne tomorrow? We might be able to figure it out together lol. FYI i was running your amp with 8GA wires fine. It's a dilly of a pickle lol.

yes this will cause it to cut out, the area around the ground has to be bare metal with no paint or anything around the connection. i installed my mates amp and there was abit of paint where the ground met the chassy and started to cut out. it is now fixed :D . if this is not the case then maybe try and redo the ground and fix it to another part of the chassy

Yeah it will be your wires. Did you check when it stops working if your amp is still on and if it has gone into protection? Usually you get them out of protection by turning the system off then on unless heat is the cause. :D

yeah when the sound stops there is no light on the amp at all. ive never seen my amp go into protection before....so im guessing the light will go red?
the system has been in the car for well over a year now....and i made sure there was no paint around the earthing point either...
i have no idea about it. just a process of ellimination i guess..

hmmm does the amp work fine every time you turn the stereo on?

No not always. Once the amp switches off it stays off for quite awhile, but then it works straight away on my system.
It has to be either a wiring short somewhere or a blown speaker.

in that case there must be a loose wire somewhere thats causing the amp to short out. check all of the connections on the amp plus also the other end of each wire. my bet is that is has a faulty ground either the ground has come loose or needs to be resoldered. it has to be a power issue because the amp light goes off each time the amp cuts out.

I FOUND THE PROBLEM!!!
You wouldnt believe it!
I had connected the amp back up after it not being in the car for a week and it worked...worked fine
so I started to pull out all my neons and the other mounting board for my old mono block which is no longer there. As I was doing so the amp cut out again...Im think "WTF!!!??"
Turns out that I forgot to cover the old trigger wire from the mono block and it was earthing out on the chassis! so I soon chopped that little bugger off and taped everything back up nicely.
But yeah I did check the earths and everything was fine.
Thankyou everybody for your help! Very very much apprieciated! :D

yeah only a little bit of the wire had to touch the chassy for it to make the amp cut out. but for it to start happening and then stop for ahile mean the wire must have got stuck somewhere which was causing it to not make any contact with the chassy. but when you go over bumps did the amp cut out? oh and as for the clock i think there has already been a thread made for installing one just cant remeber where

hey dude let us know how you go with wiring the clock and if you can/dont mind could you please take pics of where you wire your power and earths? i did it and as far as i know its right but the clock isnt working but the light is, either the clock is dead or i picked the wrong (and only) red power wire for the stereo, would be interesting to see how yours turns out
