this is a giggle

i drove 2 km's last night and the car turned into a tractor. from a nice quiet exhaust to a bloody loud embarrasment within minutes.

drove home this morning from the mrs place as quietly as possible and found the problem. The flange on the rear bank is held together by 2 bolts and 2 nuts. 3/4 of that was gone and all that was left was 1 bolt and thankfully the gasget as well, in one piece just a small bend.

I'll hit bunnings this arvo for a matching bolt, 2 nuts and SPRING WASHERS!!!! dunno who was the last place to do work on the zorst but im not impressed

"Fingertight performance at its best"lol

lol sounds like mine when the a/c stop screw wound itself down and we took the maf off cause that made it idle at about 1000rpm till i discovered what was going on; running straight off o2 sensor ---> sounded like a diesel with an exhaust; loud

I had that happen once about 5 hours out of Sydney. A gasket cracked and the car sounded like the red baron.

Not a Magna story, but many years ago I had a BJ40 LandCruiser short wheelbase with the 3.4 litre, 4 cylinder diesel. The front flange on the muffler cracked and said muffler fell off, so I unbolted the other end.

While in BBC carpark (getting stuff to fix said muffler) this old and distinguished gentleman came up to me and asked how many horsepower the incredibly noist beast made!

Dont use spring washers on an exhaust, anything at all to do with heat, the heat re tempers the washers, they crush down loosing all springiness and hence tension allowing the nut to spin off freely :P

i made a pipe up that bolted up to the extractors once and just had it dumping onto the ground at a slight angle was so much fun, specially when flames sprayed all out the side of the car.

was too noisy but.

The muffler on a mate of mine' MX-5 fell off - dodgy welding. For the past week he's had a 2.5" straight through pipe. No resonator, no muffler. Sounds frikken hot! Shame he's getting it relegalised on monday lol
