Im having a problem with the belt, its rubbing on the guard and i cant fix it just by replacing the guard and the belt, i wanna know if this is a common problem, i think i can fix it by modifying the guard a bit, but i dont see why it should rub, there is no clearance between the belt and guard, i just dont see how the **** this is possible, it isnt the guard because ive replaced that and the belt is tensioned appropriately and has been replaced. Maybe i can adjust it but i cant figure out how, any help would be appreciated

Just take the guard off, it's only two bolts and I think it looks better without it.

The accelerator cable runs near it from memory, however all the hoses run under it....

I can't really be a problem if you still have all the original guides....

I've got the same problem with the belt rubbing on the guard, i thought the guard must be distorted in some way and was gonna buy a new one.
Be a bit dangerouss to leave it off.
Did you fit a new one, you said you couldn't fix it by just replacing the guard ?

Check the mounting points on the rocker cover....sometimes the back one breaks off. :D

Could try putting washers between the cover and mounting point to open the gap up.

alright i just replaced my belt and cover, again, i cant remove the guard all together because unlike efi models carbies DO have hoses on top and around the guard which would hit the belt if i was to remove it. Washers wouldnt do anything as its no that the cover isnt coming far enough out, its not high enough, im going to try flaring out the guards a bit, i've cut out a section of the guard to severly increase the belts life, i'll let u all know if something works

It's called a "Air injection pipe"
It's got something to do with emissions control by delieveing air to the catalytic converter from the air cleaner (well I pretty sure, thats what it says in the book)
Mine was removed because I had exstractors installed.

loosen all the bolts on the water pump and rotate it untill the belt moves out of the way of the guard. then retesion the bolts and check for leaks. This should work as there is no reason other than water pump belt tension adjustment that would cause this.
