Hey everyone first thread woohooo!,
I've been able to get most of my answers through searching threads but was wondering if anyone knows the best place to apply sound deadening or the like to take that annoying drone out of the cabin. I'm thinking the boot 1st but not quite sure?
would appreciate any 1st hand experiences

unfortunately the only way to get rid of it, is by getting rid of the cannon muffler :(
sound deadening around the spare wheel well and boot floor would make some difference, but would be hard to get rid of it completely

Cheers,
Still got to turn heads when the foots down, but don't want my 1 yr old boy to be deaf by the time he's 2 either. but still want to turn heads, exhaust stays:badgrin:
Reckon I'll try sound deadening in the boot etc,
From previous threads I'm still not sure if the flashtac will make much of a difference, some say yes other's no. Of course generally wat u pay 4 is wat u get. I've got a tight budget, does anyone who has used Flashtac think the price vs effect paid off?

You have a cannon muffler complaining about exhaust noise? Oh boy.
Remove, the cannon.

Fit a mid muffler or a decient resonator.

These bad boys really get the bark/drone out of exhausts but allow a sweet sounding roar past about 4000 which is what you're after. :D
If you get a resonator fit MAKE SURE you check it yourself because most of the resonators you see at exhaust shops are just hollow with small spiral baffels around the inside wall. While these do make a very mild change in note, they dont reduce the drone or farty bark noise much at all.

I put two large resonators immediately after my catalytic convertor - this made a big difference to the amount of drone, but not so much to the loudness of the exhaust.
Also, I've completely sound deadened the floor of my boot with Dynamat Extreme, which made a small difference. I've been making a false floor out of 12mm MDF for my boot, and this weekend just gone I glued 1/2" thick underfelt to the underside of each MDF piece. This made a nice difference to volume. My next trick will be to apply the same felt to the bench and front part of the rear seats - basically anything in a line between passengers and the rear of the exhaust.

I have the problem too and getting it sorted soon, however im changing my rear mufflers. At the moment i have a straight through system with 2 small mufflers at the back. I was told that by changing the resonator won't make too much of a difference. So they suggested 2 new redback mufflers in the back. Hm....

Hey man, im tipping you have a High flow cat converter??
i also had a custom high flow 3" cat installed, so the larger resonators helped with your drone, cuz my drone annoys the S**T outta me!!
cheers

el3ment, why not just put 1 muffler further up before the system splits, that way it will save you replacing two already good mufflers.
Your probably after a tri-chamber centre-centre resonator as I know exactly how twin muffler magnas sound as some punk guns 3rd gen up my street quite often
you can also try so weight attenuation to adjust the frequencies.

Yeah I've got a full 3" exhaust, starting with a modified flex pipe. Mine have a much larger body than the resonators that turbo_charade mentioned with much more packing to absorb sound.
Another option to consider is the large custom muffler that Ego had fitted to his car. (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38088)
Edit: The car still droned with the two resonators, but it was much less anti-social.

i have a large turbosmart muffler either side of my car, other than that the only change to the exhaust system is where the pipe splits into 2 about the rear axle area. i had an extra hot-dog muffler fitted to try and quieten it down, but it made little to no difference.
personally, i love the sound! not many cars even other magnas sound quite like it, but the drone is horrible! especially when theres a passenger or 2 in the rear and it gets under load. apparently its actually louder inside the car than it is outside!

You could allso try Barry's fuel rail kit. It would be chepaest of any of the options so its worth a try. It got rid of a fair bit of drone for meafter 200km but I dont have a cannon.

Yep.
It will be noisier, a bit more bark and another mod you can add to being illegal :)
You must have a hotdog or middle muffler attached to the car :)
To the OP: Get yourself a decent hotdog to get rid of the drone. Even 2 if need be.
You will still have a nice bark, just at WOT..

I had 2 resonators fitted to the exhuast within two days of getting it, the drone was that bad. With the resonators fitted it is only bad with passangers in the car, and I have noticed air temprature also changes the level of drone.
apparently its actually louder inside the car than it is outside!
I have noticed this with my car also.

Doesn't your cannon come with a removable silencer? mine makes it sound stock (no noise whatsoever) then i take it off for big grunt noise lol

I'm not sure about that one hey. You just have to be under the minimum db level.
My charades and the girls excel did not come with middle mufflers from factory.

In Victoria you do.
I had a friend go to the EPA with his middle muffler removed (for excessive noise). The car still passed but this is what the guy said.
Quote from the guy: "You must have either a hotdog or middle muffler where that peice of pipe is *pointing to the 3 week old newly welded straight through pipe* until its there, i can not legally pass your car."
So $50 later and a hotdog was fitted, car is passed.

I got a Vortex Exhaust and I think its great! Its also has good write-ups from here and overseas if you type in 'vortex exhaust' in Google etc.
It actually creates a suction, not backpressure (as long as its installed correctly) and sounds nice but not too loud, and it doesn't drone. The main benefit is the fact its actually considered as a fuel saving device (that works IF installed as per the instructions). Incorrect installation will lead to a reduced effect.
They're made in Queensland too, so they're not a crappy import! (they actually export all over the world). Thats why if you google it there's so many positive reviews from America and the UK.

Never been a big fan of resonators.. They sux..:P
I have a Highflow metal cat and my drone is nothing.. I did expect a bit when the 3" setup was fitted..
I put the biggest straight through MUFFLER we could fit under the car after the cat and thats what made the differance.. Resinator there would of killed me.. Also we fitted two of the biggest Lukey turbo mufflers you have ever seen under the back of the car.. Its so quiet but has a nice rumble.. Cant wait till engine is finished..:P
Ill never use resonators as they create more of the problems then they fix..
