will the climate control from the 3rd gens the ones with the large display and single knob work in a second gen? i know i would have to alter the surround. but what does the climate control need if this could work. would look so much better than the stock 2nd gen or climate control in 2nd gen

2nd gen climate control wiring is completely different to 3rd gen, you will spend hours tracing wires to do this and therefore its just not worth it.

i really dont mind im not affraid of it.lol im studying electroinics engineering and have done mass wiring before. so that is not a problem. but how does the 3rd gen climate control work is it by computer or what? if it is a computer is it a supplamentary like the tcu as in not built in to the ecu

The climate control is not connected to the ecu in either vehicle, The units are self contained they directly actuate solenoids and directly derive inputs from sensors independant from other vehicle systems. The workshop manual for the third gen will show you which solenoids are controlled by which pins. I suggest you use the solenoids that are fitted to the second gen but drive them as in the third gen to overcome mechanical problems. Also consider if you are going to this much trouble it may be worth changing to a dual climate system as fitted to many mercedes and audi vehicles. Good luck.
