well this is my rant for the day,

now about 6 weeks ago i got some tp elite mags, i polished and painted them up and whacked on new tyres all round.
now the girlfriend goes to the shops for some smokes, drives down there grabs what she needs then sets off home, now she takes the last corner before our place and half way through the corner she suddenly hear's a very loud metal smacking sound. the noise was loud enough i had heard it and came outside to see what this strange noise was.
i walked outside to see her walking around the tp scratching her head ( he we go i thought). as i get closer i could hear the air pouring out of one of the tyres, waited a sec and watched the back one go flat in about 20 seconds. so i have a feel around the wheel and pulled out some pliers about 12cm long , one of the handles had sunk all the way in

the tyres had only done about 300klms thats what pissed me off the most and now i have one of the 14'' steelies on and it looks like poo.
when my digi cam batteries charge up i'll take some pic so u can see what i mean and how new the tyre was.

so in summery trip to the shops for smokes= new tyre.

Why dont you just get the tire stripped off the steel and fitted to the alloy? Costs ten bucks for me, 5 for the strip 5 for the fit.

tp elite 15'' alloys

tp factory steelies 14'' don't think i need to add to that
also the side profile would be wrong

Ah ok. That sure is a bugger. Can't be patched?

i doubt it could be patched cos theres a big hole there and the pliers went in deep.

the first pic is how it was when i first looked for the culprit. heres me thinking worst case a big screw or something but noooooo a good sized pliers instead!!

sorry pic a bit fuzzy but u see it.

and u see the hole and how big the pliers are in this one.

Were the pliers yours or have you gained a pair?!

If one of your tyres is a different size to the rest of them I'd be very cautious. Its bad that it stands out now for police! In some states such as SA, its illegal to have one tyre a different size to the rest of them. This is not the case in some ther states where a different size tyre can be used as a spare.

I point out when the Monaro first came out. It came with a smaller size spare because of the room available. I'm not sure whether a proper size rim actually fits in the spare wheel area, but it would suck having one and not being able to have a spare!

Its pretty smart to make and market a car in SA, then say 'oh we prove a spare but you poor bastards can't use it'!

mmm not sure on the law. the spare is one of my old 14'' steelies (with a good tyre on it ofcourse) so the rim is smaller but the profile is higher than the mag. so it evens it out.
to test this i just put one of my other spares on top of the flat mag and the rolling diameter of both wheels(rim+tyre) is almost exactly the same.
but i'll get a new tyre tomorow or the day after, so i don't think the boys in blue will hassle me to much.
on the up side is scored some pliers that look new:D

Show it to your local tyre guy Smooth, that should be repairable.

If not they can just put a tube in it.:D

dont put a tube in a tubless tyre, its dangerous check out REPAIRS. http://www.atma.org.au/ATMA%20technical%20Bulletin%20No%202%20Puncture%20 sealants.pdf

if it cant be repaired replace the tyre.

ok ok maybe i should have worded that more clearly as not to give the wrong impression.

"" i forgot they were tubless, so instead of buying a new tyre i'll take it to be patched (repaired) then a tube inserted""

dont worry not silly enough to just put a tube in there. im taking the tyre to where i bought it from 2 months ago to see what they say. but with that said im doing a raod trip soon so if the wheel guys hesitate in telling me if they can patch it or not i'll just buy a new one. i never put money before saftey . as these cars aren't expensive to run if maintained well, so i use the motto "when in doubt through it out" (just renew the part insead of taking chance i figure). also my family use's the tp alot , so i'll probably just get another tyre anyways.

the other thing about the whole story is there was a young guy in a v8 commdore stationwagon doing burnouts and skids aroung that very same corner just before she got the puncher. so here's this young bloke revvving the clappers out acting like a dill and nothing happens to him . but 2-3 mins later the gf takes the same corner nice and sedate like and half way through the corner some metal pliers punture the tyre. the real worry is that the handle that went through the tyre might have damged the inside of the mag rim. but wont know this untill the tyre is taken off.
