Hey, anyone tried connecting to a Haltech Interceptor with a notebook using a USB -> serial and had success?

I have mine hooked up to my carputer. It displays realtime and logs fine. One of the easiest serial connections I have ever used(I hooked it up and it worked: no com/baud fiddling)
Oops didnt read properly: I just go straight to serial, sorry.
Out of interest who else has interceptors?

Yeah, I'm thinking I'll have to relocate my desktop and see if it works, I'll need a really, really long extension lead for when I go for a drive.

Heh heh... dunno, prob not. I've tried a USB -> serial cable but it won't connect. I need to try it with a serial device to see if it's actually working.

I know we tried to have this conversation by sms.. but which part didn't work and in what way did it fail?
Silly question time: did you have the ignition turned on when you were trying to connect? :)

Redav, it might be the adaptor you are using. I regularly use the serial port at work for PLC communication. I have found some brands of adaptors work better then others (depending on application). Every adaptor I have used works with a mouse, but not all work with the PLCs. :P

The unit wouldn't come online because it couldn't find the COM port.

Obvious answer: yeah, it was running.

You're accepted. You'll be treasurer and if you don't like it then you put up or get out lol

Well, that's what I'm thinking. I was going to try it with a serial mouse and see if it works on the notebook and my desktop but I guess you've blown my plans :o. I'll also try my mates notebook but I think his is old enough to actually have a serial port.

Got a mate who has a haltech and got me to set up his USB to Serial adapter, he uses it all the time and has never rang me up with issues, so I assume it works just peachy for him.
It was just a cheap ~$20 Jaycar adapter btw

Only guessing the price, I doubt jaycar have more than one model of this, so most likely yours is the same. Only said ~$20 cos it looks like cheap chinese crap.

You could email Haltech, they may be able to recommend one they know works.

Actually, I respect almost all Porsche's except the Boxter, that's what I meant.

Sometimes, when it can't find the Com port, simply unplug the USB end , and plug in again while it's live, and try again.
You get the "ding dong" "ding ding" with XP and away it goes.:D
I use the cheap-**** Altronics USB-Serial convertors, ( the one's with the Orange LED on the Serial end) for Phone Systems, and come across this all the time.("can't open serial port")
Good luck.

Haven't driven it much since it was installed. Just sorta drove home from Romanos. Chris Romano said it drove really well, he was suprised. I'll probably have a bit of a drive of it today. But the power curve and torque curve were both higher throughout the entire range, so it should be better.

195 by Romanos dyno. They dyno'd my car how it was at 180hp, and QMD dyno day it was 186. But I'm stoked. Extractors, zorst + haltech and i've gained arguably about 23kW ATW from stock.

Oops. I re-did my maths... Ralliart Rick Dyno'd 127kW ATW stock. I dyno'd 146KW ATW with said mods. So it's more like 19kW ATW gain from stock. That's not to say it's gospel, but it's just an indication as the 2 dynos in "shootout" mode are fairly close.
BTW: I'm chasing that extra 5-10 HP to put me over 200. What would be the cheapest and easiest mod to get there? Apart from NOS. :P

Yeah, I'm thinking maybe a Fuel Pressure Regulator but doubt that'll net me any power gains. I think I'll have to do something like maybe oversized throttle body, twin throttle body or inlet runners or something... I dunno.
