G'day,

I purchased the above car second hand in October 2005 - I've had no problems at all and I cannot express how happy I am.

In regards to warranty, I believe the inital is 3 years/130k, and the extended is 5 years/130k. The car is outside of the initial warranty but I don't know if the previous owner applied for the extended warranty within the time frame.

Is there a way that I can find out if the car is covered by the extended warranty?

I noticed that the black boarder around the rear windshield is fraying, and the plastic strips down the side of the doors keep popping out at the rear. From reading these forums both seem like common problems.

Assuming the extended warranty is in place, would these two items be covered?

Cheers,
PM

should be able to ring up the dealer that the car was purchased from they should be able to tell ya if it has extended warranty or not.
as for the things being covered under warranty i think the used car warranty is alittle different from the new car warranty but im unsure. you should have a book on the extended warranty stated when it starts and finishes and also what is covered under warranty

I'm pretty sure you need to apply for 5yr warranty just before you hit the 3 year mark. it's all in the service book.

I was told that just before the 3 year one expires, they need to perform a full check before
issuing 2 further years. I also read somewhere the extended warranty is not transferrable.

Thanks all.

I just realised the warranty book states the warranty started in mid 9/04, so I still have 12 months initial left. It's going in for a 45k service in a week or two, so I will ask then.

I can tell you 100% that extended warranty is for the owner of the vehicle at the time. Extended warranty is NOT transferable to a subsequent owner.

So if I am the second owner of the car and the inital warranty still applies till next year, I can ask for the extended warranty? Is that correct?

The Mitsubishi website does say that the extended warranty is fully transferable??

The website only states that the standard warranty is transferable. It does not state that EXTENDED warranty (either factory or dealer) is transferable.

correct the 5 year portion is transferable for cars after 1 Dec 2004.

cars between 2002 - 2004 had a 2 year extension for a fee, which is transferable in limited cases page 7 of the PDS. but as car is still under original 3 yr warranty check with mitsu if 5 years appliues automatically or if can get the 2 yr extension.

Righto...

Asked today regarding the warranty for a 2003 model.

First off, the 3 year initial warranty applies to any owners of the car within the first three year period from first regisration - no matter if you are the first owner or the tenth :)

Secondly, the 5 year extended warranty is also available to any owner of the car, as long as it is applied for within the 3 year initial warranty period. However, the extended warranty does not continue if the car is further sold on. So, if you are the owner and apply for the warranty within the initial 3 year period then no dramas. However if you then sell the car outside of the initial warranty period and while in the extended warranty period then the remander of this warranty becomes void.

There is a fee to have the extended warranty apply. There is no need for mechanical checks if the car has been serviced as per the service manual.

Hope that helps anybody (like myself) that was still confused.
