after the check was done i asked what else needs to be fixed and this is the list i got and in order of nessicity

**Service & Tune up (this got done today) = $139.00
1)Ignition Leads(spark plug leads) (this got done today) = $50.00
2)Thermostat Gasket = $55.00
3)Exhaust manifold = $55.00
4)Oil leak front seal = $150.00
5)new brake fluid and flush of master cylinder = $60.00
6)Throttle body clean = $55.00

I would get a second opinion cause sometimes but not always they have special service prices just to get you in the door. Might not be the case but wouldnt hurt. That is if you didnt expect those things to be wrong.

agree with TR-Driver, thats a fair bit of money, but i guess if you need to get those things fixed then yeah, better now than when it ****s itself up, were you expecting those things? or you had no idea there was anything wrong?

Well air filter and fuel filter is okay, throttle body clean and brake fluid are an upsell they have done.. but a brakefluid change will be good as its prob been a while. thermostat gasket is way to expensive.. take it that includes labour of fitting it..??

Get a second opinion...$55 for a "throttle body clean" is a joke.

Buy yourself some carby/TB cleaner and all you do is squirt it into the tb as the car is running (this will mean the mas isnt connected and the car will run like pus, but it's only for a little while). Then keep doing it for a good 5-7 squirts and you'll find it's cleaned up all the gunk and burnt it out.

Would you pay $55 for that? Didn't think so ;)

Get a 2nd opinion on the rest of it.

agreed :D

it is not very hard to clean the throttle body.. just pull of your air intake and squirt that stuff into it..

and while your at it you might aswell put the whole thing off and bore it out with a dremel tool and give yourself more flow.

$55 sounds a little too much

Front seal isn't too bad though. As this involves dropping the engine on that side. It's a b***h of a job to do, had to do mine when I first got the magna.

Mechanics are just like a supermarket or retail outlet.

you go there to get something simple, you end up comming out with more then what you wanted.

although if your not a mechanic or dont know one, then its hard to get a second opinion

Next time you should tell them to ring you first before they do anything to the car, thats what I get mine to do so I dont go there an expect a charge of $500 - 1000 when only expecting to pay $150

If you had access to a shed or decent flat space, a jack and axle stands and beer;) and wanted to buy the parts then I could give you a hand with all that stuff on there as I've done a lot of them on my car.

edit: I'm located in the Marion area

Thermostat Gasket $4.90 retail from repco, $2 trade price (if you can get this)
Fuel Filter $17 (Trade price) retail about ~$25

Youre getting screwed mate.

I wouldn't say he's getting screwed. Labour will almost always cost substantially more than parts. I don't think that the total price is thaaaaat bad, could be cheaper on some things, but all in all it's ok.
