I was wondering some in car dvd units can only play dvds while in park, is there anyway around this so that you can watch dvds while driving? or would you have to get a different unit??

Cheers.

the unit comes on when the handbrake is on ... all you have to do is hook it up to another switch

easy peasy

Same....Im sure they only require like 12+ consatnt and 12V ACC? so just ground it and the unit should come on when you want it to..

the whole reason it works with the hand brake. it completes the circuit.
so just a constant connection to the ground will make it think the handbrake is on

Yeh you should wire it up to some kinda of super secret switch that only you know how to operate, so when the popo drive up next to u, u can say that u weren't watching porn whilst driving ;)

I just got a screen to go with my DVD hu and both actually need to be erm grounded aka connected to handbrake, if u want the tv on while driving.

Anyway when all you see is a song list i dont see that as being too distracting, i guess its just like all those inbuilt units you see in all the new cars now.

oh and i will have to hook up a switch so that just in case i can turn the screen off.

ok my question how about if your using the tv as navigation (i hook up my laptop to it) is it still illegal to have the tv on whilst driving???

my understanding of the law (in QLD neway), is that if the screen is on while driving it has to be angled away from the driver (so they can't see it)when playing movies, etc, or displaying info for the driver, whether its song info, nav or flashy tv screen gauges.

I set up a hidden switch so i can either have it setup so it doesn't work when handbrake is off, or work whenever i want it to hehe,
anyways my Screen is my HU i can't c anything unless i have it turned on.

oh btw the handbrake is an earth switch, so just putting the handbrake alert wire from screen to the earth or chasis of a car makes it think that the handbrake is actually engaged
