If they have a different cam in them assuming they are a TJ+ then you may gain power but only with an ECU retune. A lot of work for very little gain. If you want more performance either get a full 3.5 or work/rebuild your 3.0

Presuming it would fit wouldn't you lose a lot of compression?

Cylinder bore mm 6G72 – 91.1 / 6G74 – 93.0
Piston stroke mm 6G72 – 76 / 6G74 – 85.8
3.0L = 6G72, 3.5L = 6G74
So...No. :D

yes the heads will fit.the heads are the same size between 3 and 3.5 only the blocks were different.

I'm was wrong. :redface:
Posted by Mitsiman in the 3G Owner's thread.
FIrst of all - yes the only difference between the 3.0 and 3.5 engine blocks are the blocks themselves. THe cylinder heads are identical. But there is a difference in the camshaft and the distributor
That thread is a good read BTW, lots of good pics and info.

So, why do they use the same head gaskets? ;)

Well, that's what a Mitsu service dude told me. I grabbed a part number from NZ when checking out the 6G72 DOHC and this guy said that it was suitable for the Mivec and our 3rd gen engines. Hmm... dodgy...

6G72TT was in the 300GT/GTO, and maybe the Eclipse/Stealth? (USA)
That guy obtained a N/A DOHC 6G74, probably from a Japan Domestic Market (JDM) Debonair, and made it fit his Dodge Stealth, with alot of custom work, including most of the Tubo setup.

2nd gen V6 straight swap and probably a tight fit around the firewall.
3rd gen swap possibly but with re-engineering involved but as if you would anyway.
