Hi,
Has anyone fitted a Powerchip or any other computer mod to their 3.5 magna? Powerchip claim a 15KW improvement.

I didn't think the magnas were "chippable" like the commodores are and so fourth.
They may be trying to sell you a "unichip/piggyback" device, and again, how can they claim figures as every vehicle is different and will get different results based upon the modifications performed.
Updated: This information was their "1999 Mitsubishi Magna", figures are slighly out and they don't even list a 3.5 engine.
Your Mitsubishi Magna 3.0 V6 uses an ECU which features an embedded processor rather than a normal chip or EPROM which means that your car does not use a chip that can be modified. The Powerchip upgrade for your car is an additional computer which alters the ignition timing of the vehicle in the same way as a normal chip style upgrade. Installation takes about 1 hour and can be performed by a Powerchip Authorised Fitter. We have authorized fitters in most areas. Please enquire at the time of order for your nearest fitting station.
In standard form, the Magna 3.0 V6 produces 140 kW and 255 Nm.
Powerchip has a range of chips to suit your car, which can increase it's power to between 151 kW and 155 kW, and it's torque to between 272 Nm and 280 Nm.
The price of the Powerchip is AUD $889.90.

It assumes each car is identical. Ideally you need the chip tuned to the results your after on your car. Each car is different. If however you're only prepared to spend $900, then it might be okayish. Unichip is only another $300 and the Greddy another $200ish on top of that.

Thankyou for your reply. Powerchip do list a chip for 3.5ltr engines including the ralliart. I'm guessing the Unichip or Greddy are a better solution judging by your replies. Do you know anyone with a Unichip or Greddy fitted? Once again, thankyou both for your replies

My VRX is booked stand by to have a UNICHIP installed on the 22/12
I will be able to give power gains after that.( I hope)

Those chips are such are not really a good idea as they cost you whatever to fit them and you havn't really done antying to truly match the mods on your car.
The benefit of a unichip / greddy combo is that it is tuned real time on a dyon to suit your car at that time to extract the most from it. best of all when you modify it further it can be retuned to suit those mods.
Plug in chips cannot do that which is why many previous plug in chip companies are now instead making there own piggy back computer systems.
Save you rmoney, modify teh car first and then do the computer piggy back later.

Yeah make sure you do!
Can't wait to see what you can get out of a VRX with what you've done so far and a UNICHIP!

Shall be watching with bated breath. Do you plan on any other mods? Who's doing the install?

The only other thing Iwant to do is put an airfilter on it.
I was thinking about an oversize tb but don't think I'll bother.
last thing I would like to do is a front strut brace.
The UNICHIP is being fitted at Motsons at Salisbury.

Joeel,
I got a quote for a Unichip I think. It was a piggy back unit. The process was Dyno first to see what was at the rear wheels then program the chip while car is is on Dyno. The wanted $1200 for the whole job. One thing to remember is that peak power is not everything. You want to see power and or torque gains over a significant part of the rev range. I was especially looking at improving the low end torque and power of the 3.0 L V6. As I think that nothing really beginds to happen till 3000 rpm. Anyway thats just my opinion . Good luck with the mods.

I think you're right. On the drag strip the other night it really showed that 3000ish and it becomes a whole new car. It's strange. One of the guys I raced commented that I took off and then suddenly I started to pull away.
Bottom end torque is what I'm keen to improve and I'm pretty sure with a Unichip and Greddy you'll pick up over the whole rev range. Just comes down to how it's tuned for what results you're after. I don't know if it's realistic to expect earth shattering powergains and big economy improvements. Would be nice though :)

In my last post I meant front wheels not rear wheels of course.

When did Motson's open up in Salisbury? Anyways, Motson's in Underwood, right by the highway there said that chipping the Magna would only be good once you have a full exhaust system, the appropriate breathing mods. Once you have these it will probably be most beneficial.

That's fairly right. You'd gain down low but a restrictive muffler would stop any top end gains.
