Fed up the back teeth with this car. (TL maggie)
When I start it, 2 seconds later it just dies. Electricals still work, the motor just stops. I get this clicking noise from under the console like a solenoid gone beserk. Happens about 2 or 3 time a day.
Should I:
(a) Torch it
(b) Ignore it
(c) Torch it
(d) Get Mitsubishi to fix it
(e) Torch it
I've got 8 days left on the warranty. The scary part about giving it to Mitsubishi is that the service guy reckons its a flat battery. mmmmm.........maybe I should torch it!

Sounds like an immobiliser being triggered prematurely. Anyone know what the TL's have in terms of security?
Or does it have an aftermarket alarm?

you will most likely find that it is indeed a faulty - stuffed battery, 3rd gen's are notorious for this problem - my car was doing it apparantly not long before i bought it - the same symptoms have been raised on here many times, most are fixed with a new battery.......3rd gens needs plenty of voltage to start and keep running - an easy test is to get your hands on a new battery and give it a try for a few days....you will find all your probs are gone....ohh, and dont skimp on the battery, get a good quality one....with plenty of CCA's....and you'll be set for a fair while

or just check the voltage coming out of the battery.
And at the altenator.

Damn, so this dude could be right. I thought he was a noob. Or at the least takin' the piss.
When you look at it the batery IS 3 years old.
I'll head down to Autobarn and try a new one and see how it goes.
Thanks for the replies.

I have the exact same problem. Had it for a while.
It is not the battery. I have a brand new odyssey battery in my car, and it is doing it. One way to get around this i noticed is, put your key in, turn into ACCESS, wait a second or two, and start engine, that won't cause this issue... I learned to do this. I have to check the connectors on the ECU and make sure there is good contact. I read somewhere about them oxydising...
PS. if you still have warranty on it, ****, why are you on here? go to mitsi and get it fixed if it annoys you so much
that clicking noise u hear is the relays for the fuel pump.

^ Don't go to mitsubishi to test it, you've given them enough money already and their replace it with another Black Diamond POS - which is a superceeded Exide battery design with is notorious for what your describing - it doesn't go directly flat like normal batteries, it tends to draw a current, lose the current, find the current again.

if its under warenty they will test it for free if the cca rating is in limits it will be the wiring for the emobiliser

Try a new battery.
Had the same problem earlier this year.
New battery - Problem gone!!
3 years for a battery in Australia is actually very good due to the very high underbonnet temperatures in summer.

You start a thread to ask for help with a problem (that could have any number of causes) because YOU don't know what's happening. Then you bag someone who offered his experience and opinion because he wasnt right on this occasion. You're an idiot.
For the record, I had a similar problem and it WAS the battery:upyours:
