Hey all,

Finally gotten the ****s with marks all over my black seats, so I need some seat covers. However, my vrx has side airbags which are in the side of the seat, so regular ones are a no-no. Does anyone know whether there are seat covers which cater for side airbags, or am I going to have to live with marks all over my beautiful black seats ( need leather!).

Cheers,
Chris

Can you just use some upholstery cleaner?

Your missing the point.

My point was why try to cover up the problem, rather than just fix the problem itself?

You could just buy any regular seat covers and cut a hole for the airbag and stitch the edges but i doubt you can get covers specifically to cater to the magna side airbags.

I'm not covering up the problem, I'm trying to prevent it from happening. I shampoo my seats regularly, but it annoys me within days they are marked again.

Oh right - i thought you meant you HAD marks on the seat not that you were trying to PREVENT them.

Genuine Mitsi covers may have the holes?

If not - pick the ones you like and cust holes and then overlock the edges.

You can go to any automotive parts retailer and ask to see there range of custom seat covers.
Im not 100% on it but some may be ok for cars with the side airbags.....Im just not 100% though......can't hurt though so i'd go in and ask them about it:)

Another option may be to Scoth Guard it?

(sorry for spamming this thread, but seat covers look **** and never sit properly on the seat imo)

i get in heaps of cars that have seat covers over the top of side air bags that are in the seats.. obviously the owners have no idea that they actually have air bags in their seats or they dont care about their saftey if involved in an accident..

you can get universal sheep skin ones etc from autobarn with holes in the side to cater for the airbags but everyone knows that unviersal ones dont fit properly.. maybe get some custom made ones??

i know i get a few marks and that on my black seats in the ralliart, but they come off with little effort.. id personally rather spot clean the seats and get them shampooed professionally every year or so than have seat covers..

I've got sheepskins from Autobarn that don't have sides, it's like an insert that starts at the headrest and fits like a normal seatcover top and bottom. They're designed for side airbag seats, looks ok, black sheepskin on black leather. We pumped heaps of leather treatment into the seats first, they haven't marked or dried out so far; you notice sitting higher in the car though. Comfy as.

So are these marks general wear and tear type marks or is it because your clothing is dirty, which in turn dirties the seats? Mine are super clean just like brand new

Hmm custom is looking like the way to go atm. Marks are just general wear I guess. Its hard to describe how they get there, its just that black fabric is so easy to mark. Just getting peeved over having to clean them so regularly, and the next day they will mark again and look almost the same.

i always find it funny that people cover leather seats up with seat covers.. i cant work out why.. if they buy a car second hand and it comes with leather, fair enough.. but some people pay like an extra $2000 for a leather interior when they buy a new car then go and cover it up with seat covers..

i dont get it..lol

they get grubby cause of the stuff u put on them. even non greasy like autoglym leather care cream it traps dirt. the worst stuff to use is that mothers brand. its this white stuff thats comes out looking like...... not good it u get some on the console and forget to wipe it

also baby seats are really bad for lether. I use a towel cause it scuffs them something shocking.

yeah, fair point with the baby seat.. but leather is supposed to be cleaned and conditioned regularly and i reckon they would be easier to keep clean than normal cloth seats..

tan/beige leather - yes, i immagine that would get grubby easily.. but grey and black (had 2 cars in the family with grey leather - now have a mazda 6 with black leather) and it never gets dirty or a greasy film on..

if they are greasy it means youve put too much conditioner on them, which will result in dirt/dust sticking to them.. also cheap conditioners suck, coz the leather doesnt soak them up..

only think with the 6 is the back headrests have gone all hard and dried out and consequently shrunk..

best leather conditioner ive used is either Zaino Z10 (not easily bought off the shelf tho) or Oakwood Leather Conditioner.. (you get it from places that sell horse stuff like saddles).. when putting it on - less is more.. leave the sit for a good hour then buff with a soft cloth to remove the excess..

I got grey leather but hides the dirt it looks clean but when u condition it the cloth is all dirty. once I was in a rush and didnt buff the seat properly and my girlfriend had a white top on and got all these marks down her back  luckily we stopped to get something to eat and I blamed it on dirty seats at the restarant. lol

Haha suprisingly not, they left it in pretty good nick which was a bonus. Leather...hmm how I want to, but I cant justify the cost. Plus I'm not keen at throwing much more money at the vrx, looking at 8's come late next year.
