I called up Mitsu this morning and organised a 45k service for the TL VRX - asked about the price and was told politely that I couldn't be given a price until the work was complete. It was too early in the morning and I couldn't be bothered saying anything.

Anyway, surely a 45k service is pretty standard. Anybody got a rough idea of cost?

Many thanks,
Pete

I would be telling them that you want them to call you with anything that needs fixing before they fix it. Some places can be dodgy like that, they should have a base price of what the service will cost.

I wouldn't take it to Mitsubishi period (especially north sore) - unless you want apprentices to work on your car.

I know a good sole trader mechanic up near Hornsby that I use all the time if you ever look for somewhere else to take your car.

Yeh they could have given you at least an approx price on the service, but as pointed out above make sure they call you on what needs to be changed, never hand your car over for a service unless they provide a quote of some sort!!

Thats bull mate. Mitsi has fixed prices for their log book services (they differ between stores though).
If he wont tell you I wouldnt be surprised if you get a huge bill at the end just cause they can.

Get the standard price and get them to ring you if they find ANYTHING else that 'needs' fixing.

$25 is a bit ridiculous for wiper blades ... unless they changed the whole arm.

Thanks all. The car dioesn't go in until Thursday so I'll sort out the prices before then.

I woudn't normally use a dealer mechanic, but I am not sure what the ramifications would be for warranty. I've been far too busy at work lately to really bother finding out but have been told different things from different people.

Either way, after this service the car will be going to my local mechanic that I have been using without problems for near on 10 years.

Thanks all,
Pete

If you get it done at a place like Ultratune etc, it won't affect your warranty. Infact a lot of places can service your car without voiding your dealer warranty, just ring a few and ask. But I know Ultratune definately can.

Any licenced mechanic can - MMC parts will have to be used where possible though - for instance, if you use a repco oil filter and for some reason it leaks all the oil out of your engine, causing he engine to sieze, you wouldnt be able to claim warranty.

It is however those extra warranties added on by the dealer which requires all servicing to be done by the dealer where teh problem lies - although their not usually worth the paper their printed on.

Werd. Exactly why I never bothered to get my car serviced from where I bought my car.
