Does anyone know if it's possible to swap the ECU from a manual TJ Sports into a manual TH Sports? Weren't they main changes between the TH & TJ Sports? - the exhaust and ECU?

not sure about ecu but different cams and exhaust. Regarding the ECU though, i guess it's possible but you'd need a mitsubishi dealer to program it for you.

I could be wrong here, but I think its either the ECU or BCM thats only able to be written (programmed) once.

I had a thread on here a while back, ill see if I can dig it up.

EDIT: Info from old thread available here:

In a nutshell, yes.

In theory yes, but obviously depending on the age of the gear you get plus the age of your engine, you're likely to lose a couple of kw's.

If you want more power, do the mods listed in my signature........

I spank my friends 5spd Tippy TJ Sports which is 163kW, PLUS my car is heavier being a Verada!

OR if you're looking to change ECU's get a Haltech Interceptor (piggyback) or a complete Haltech Replacement ECU, youll gain alot more than the few kW that youll gain from a TJ ECU.

Thanks for the replies... I appreciate your points, but I'm not interested in anything as radical as an interceptor, or even a retune (if it was possible for us general public... damn Mitsu Engineers)...

I'm talking about a straight swap of hardware, not a reflash. i.e. If I could get my hands on a TJ ECU out of a wrecked TJ Sports...

I didn't know the cams were different. It wouldn't be hard to get some similar ones ground up anyway.

The reason I ask this is with my old car (TX3), we could drop the Jap-Spec ECU in and go from 117KW Oz Spec to around 134KW Jap-Spec, keeping in mind that we could only ever use BP98, Optimax or Caltex Vortex 98 afterwards - which is what I did.

I don't see the point of upgrading the cams and exhaust if the ECU doesn't properly cater for the mods, but am not willing to put in a Haltech or similar in my Magna. Maybe if I was considering forced induction, but i'm not....

Pretty sure you can't just "drop an ecu in" as the ecu, bcm and immobiliser are all connected securely and if one of them get's disrupted, the car won't start.

Spewing...

I'm going to keep investigating though...
