it doesnt have to be 11 but more it does nead to have more than 6

Dunno, I've never really seen the need for an EQ, but I'm not much of a SQ person lol..

Try the Eclipse EQ2102

your better off with a 5 band parametric eq than a 11 band graphic EQ.

Paramtric has:
variable Q - width of the frequency range
variable boost/cut
And variable frequencies that you can select

Compared to a graphic EQ which just has predetermined frequency ranges.

But will all be in vain if your gear isnt up to scratch and installed well. no amount of EQ can make crap speakers sound brilliant. And generally try to cut and not boost and use your EQ as sparingly as possible.

And that eclipse EQ above is pretty good too... But very dangerous in the hands of the inexperienced lol

Unless you have a good ear, or the proper equipment (RTA) then they are very hard to tune.

fortunatly i do have great ears for sound. i have jl audio vr600 splits up front and jl audio tr690 6 x 9s in the rear. and i want to "blend" them better together. plus balance the splits mid bass just a little. i dont like the ones on the head units they are absolutely crap. i know this because i have designed them my self as studying electronics engineering. the graphic would be better to blend them cause you dont have to worry bout the q factors (and yes i know what they do) you just increase certain frequencies. a sweep and a fast spectrum analyzer could do it. put a 1vpp sweep sine wave at 0 dB and alter so every frequency has the same voltage out. but its not voltage you need to be carefull. because amplifiers are current increasing devices manly not just voltage.

anyways sorry for the thesis lol. i was looking at about the 250 to 300 price range. can anyone help?

Most issues people have in the car environment are small little peaks say at around 3khz where the tweet and mid crossover, or increases due to door cavities.

As these usually affect a small band of the frequency spectrum it is usually better to be able to target the frequency exactly. If you have a set Q, then say you have an issue at 3khz, as the width of the cut/boost is too great you may be affecting all the other frequencies around that frequency which were previously fine.

Nevertheless, if you really want an eq, go a good 32 band eq, as before the Eclipse units are great.

keep an eye out on CAA forums they pop up every now and then.

Personally I'd look to spend the coin on frontstage duties, especially speakers and door prep as this will probably yield better results, but thats just me. Im not a fan of EQ'ing.

Also - if you are studying EE, designing an EQ is a snack. Look up gyrator circuits on the web, the maths is simple enough, and if you use decent opamps and a nice and clean power supply design, it isn't hard. I built my own 4 channel 1/4th octave eq years ago in Uni...
It used centre detent trimpots (cheaper than sliders, doesn't look as cool though).

Also something related that i spotted in JB HI-FI the other day that people might be interested in. Was an RCA splitter, but took the one RCA signal and put it into sub out, front and rear (obviously will end up being the same anyway to the headunit). But you could change the xover frequencies of the RCA outputs and i thought it was a nice little unit for people who only had the 1 pair of RCA outputs on their head unit.

If your interested in EQ's then take a look at this NEW unit from Rockford:
http://www.albertsmyaree.com.au/Rockford3Sixty.pdf

It has the potential to make even the worst sounding OEM system sound great!

i want it because i have the tweeters for my jl audio vr 6inch splits on the dash and the bass drivers in the doors. i have the lower model tr 6x9's. with the treble at a nice volume up front if i turn my head i can hear the difference and it ****s me. it would be alright if jl audio brought the 6x9s from america like they should but they dont. so i want to take off the treble at the front because its still to bright but then boost the rears treble a bit too.
