Hi Everyone,
Was hoping for some advice on the 2001 magna. There seems to be heaps of them available to buy. Do they have a good/bad reputation. Is the 2002 model much better?
Thanks :)

well i used to have a TE (96 mod...current shape) im a P plater and i didnt not have one major problem with the build. Only major prob i had was a screw left in m engine bay sum how and it chewed my timing belt.
But im sure uve seen how P platers drive...i wasnt ne different then...thrashed early morns (1am start at work 6days a week)
and seriusly had no probs. Just like every other car, keep it clean n serviced n itl b good bak 2 u

oh...n mum has a TF...no probs, under 100k on it and its fine for a cruisy driver.
they have big boots...so u got room for all the kids toys etc.luggage for hols. good all round car...and drive a lot smoother then commos...
ill vouch for that. my magna was 96 mod, my current ride a 96 commo...and the magna wins hands down...which is way im looking at gettin a verada in the new yr...and ive only owned the commo for almost 4months.

Just had a loan car as the GTV went in for a few lil rattles and I took that for a drive and it seems to feel slightly lighter in the back and definetely less rattles. All in all.. No problems with either the 98 model Magna or the 02 model Verada. I'd be looking for an Advance if looking for a family car though.. But for power.. A manual 3.5L would be nice :D

The biggest problems that the recent models have is that:
they're an under-rated car,
still wearing a bad name from earlier models,
poor resale.
But that's good for you. Better car than thought, not that bad at all, cheaper for you.
If you like manuals, then finding one is worth the wait. I'd drive several and keep an eye for any funniness from the auto, see if the indicator stalk plays up with high beams and the other stuff you should look for when buying a car.

Cheap due to following reasons:
1) 003 is out and dealers want to get rid of the early modles.
2) 001 is cheap coz it will be 3 years old in 2004 (i.e. around 2o days to go).
3) magna got high depreciation rate.
4) 80% of the cars advertized are company owned / leased cars specially at the dealers . dealers buy them cheap from the auctions and sell them cheap to keep the money rolling.
5) check Redav's post for more reasons
and also the low previous intrest rate saw more ppl trading in their near-new cars for new ones?

3) magna got high depreciation rate.
Other vehicles (Commodore, Falcon) also have a high depreciation rate aswell. It's due to the fact (that I understand) it to be because they are used as fleet vehicles and the government, once they have them, sell them cheap and the rest of the market (dealers, private) somewhat follow.
