I think a ralliart motor is going in with the addition of other parts like twin pot callipers.

Why I suspect this?
Well there is a wrecker in Campbelltown who has two ralliarts for wrecking, the both arrived in recent weeks....
Someone has taken nearly all the parts from the first ralliart in the last week, which left the other car for me to strip from

Anyways there's my theory, now I want my parts!
There on a trailer on there way down as of today :cool:

I'm guessing Dallas is acting in a purely advisory role (and moreso to do with the tuning than anything else), and parts are being sourced locally to his specs.

PS. I'd just like to publicly say that Dallas from Street Torque is a bloody legend. If you ever plan on doing anything "hardcore" to your magna performance wise - give the guy a call, he knows his **** when it comes to 6g7* motors. And unlike some other workshops, I've never purchased anything off the bloke but he was always willing to talk to me, often giving me more advise / info than I knew what to do with lol .

G'luck Eg's. Can't wait to see your car when you're up here (if I ever get some time off work :rant: )

Did you go stock for the mains etc, or go with the ARPs...just an aside question...all 6g74 are 4 bolt main and the 6g72 is the two bolt??

6g74 is definetly 4 bolt main standard, not 100% sure on the 6g72, but I think you may be right - 2 bolt.

Hemi = hemispherical combustion chamber. ie shape of an orange cut in half
As these are V shaped they aren't Hemi heads.

With 4 or 5 valve per cylinder heads, hemi's are very hard to design and really don't offer much more power as it is hard to place the 4 valves so that they don't interfere with each other. The main reason they initially gave more power was due to the sparkplug being at the top of the combustion chamber, but with 4 valve per cyl heads it is located there anyhow. And 2 valves offer much more airflow than 1;).

Dunno how my rear end came into this conversation.. but looks like its my car designated for the trip to queensland.. EGO's car will be finished.. but its too risky running it in by driving to qld..

Now I gotta convince aaron to take all the grog up cos I dont have a boot! (not that that will be hard..)

We are nearly there.. Have done much laterly because im a lazy **** and also we have been waiting for a TPS to fit on my PHAT T/B..

Last nite was "D" Nite.. Started her up for the first time.. was just to get her to run(rough of course)so we can run the cams in and just make sure everything is alright.. Had someone from Haltech around and with a bit of a tune on the old laptop we got her to run straight off the bat.. second start and seh ran.. after the first 5 mins we had a heater hose come off the back of the motor as it was clamped and you should of seen the really scared look on the three of our faces when it dumped waster all over the hot exhaust and filled the workshop with steam.. The first 5-10 seconds where like :shock: **** what the hell, then we realise what it was.. Other than that everything went well. had her sit on 2000rpm for about 20mins. today is fit fuel pressure reg and put all the little bits and peices back together.. then tonite it will be ready for the tuners and its done.. Will find out this morning when JEM (http://www.justenginemanagent) can tune it..:)

Sounded so PHAT idling at a pinch over 1000rpm..:P

Haha, don't worry, 207kw ATW is still nothing to be sneezed at! I think that's a very nice amount of usable power! And it's quite a bit more than what some early LS1's were making from the factory...

How long are you anticipating it will take to tune (considering there's a base line tune in there now)???

I paid for about 6hrs on the dyno to tune my car - and it was compfortably done in one day. I know it's not a replacement ECU, but I'm lead to believe that tuning an NA tune into a boost tune is something not to be rushed.

Can't wait to see the results anyway mate!!!

Yeah car is all good.. got it back yesterday.. its on a very basic tune and was tuned only off throttle position.. got a few more things to do to it but its running and driving 100%. got it yesterday at 4pm and uts now 10pm following day and ive put 600kms on it already..:P

Cam is crazy.. you really feel it come in after 3000rpm. got nothing before that.. cant wait for the extra power from proper tune next week.. running at about 60% now

Idle is PHAT.. sounds like a V8 supercar.. Valve springs and rolla rocker let you know they are there too with all there racket..:P

Give me reasons why i should tell everybody my secrets about what i did and had to R&D myself, you of all people know that i dont like handing over my hard earned money to others and letting them do all the work lol .....

I have told a few people on theses forums some of my specs/information but i am VERY picky on who i tell and show theses things to.

Anyway a 2 1/2" mandrel bent straight thru exhaust is big enough for that power output on a NA 6cylinder, IF it was turbo'd or supercharged then that would be a different matter.
Remember my magna is only a NA 3.5l and i didnt see any point in wasting good money on getting a complete new exhaust for maybe 5kws more power.

To set you straight about my exhaust, it is 3" up to and including the first resonator (what that means is, from the "y" pipe that join the front and rear banks of the extractors its 3" pipe thru a 3" diamater double braided flex joint that hooks up to a hi flow 3" large body metal cat then on to the first resonator, after that resonator it goes back to 2 1/2" mandrel pipework).

Jase you may have lots of money (rumors of $15000+ on your engine?? :nuts:) to spend/waste whereas i definately dont but i do have alot of magna knowledge, hence why i have kept my cards on what i did close to my chest. You honestly cant blame me for wanting to do that after all the hard work and time I put in, can you. :)

Oh and jase in NO way am i having a go at you, all im saying is dont bag me out cos i didnt tell you the in's and out's of what i did.

We all enjoy a common thing and that is mitsubishi magnas, so lets enjoy our cars as a group but at the same time respect individuals choices on what they do and what they are willing to tell people. :D

Im talking about MPH at the end of ET (down the quarter mile). Most 3.5L manual magnas are around the 93-95mph mark.

you're missing something.. the 106mph was trap speed at the end of the quarter mile at the drag strip. If you can get your mum's TR to 180kph in 400m I'd be impressed ;)

That 1/4mile time and trap speed was done with my OLD 171.2Kw's@wheels engine in the middle of last year NOT with my new engine which was in my car in may/june this year.

My hi output engine didnt do any official 1/4mile runs, i only got to run it against my dads modded XR6T (his car was doing consistent 12.1's at the time) on a private road. :cry:

You missed the most important component in your next engine rebuild - ear protection. ear muffs or ear plugs are both effective at keeping that annoying ringing in your ears out of your head while working/playing. that ringing usually comes from either side of the garage from your other half that doesnt like engine rebuilds lol

Not yet.. its on a run in tune and running average.. fixing all the little things.. ive put 1100kms on it in a week.. goes back to tuners to get all sorted this week..:)


Havent real had a tune yet.. timing is way out and it fowls plugs if it idles for to long as its running so rich.. all they did is put in on the dyno to get it to run off throttle position.. no maf sense or idle motor hooked up yet and it hit 167kw at the wheel when it hit 6000rpm when limiter came in.. graph was still climbing hard too. That what limiter was set at for run in.. max power will be around 7200rpm when finished.. Really love these cams.. nothing till 3000rpm then everything.. throws you in the seat hard.. Cant wait for the extra 40-50kw atw..:)

Only drama is getting power down.. even with the Cusco LSD she like to spin 20's..:P

You will need some serious suspension mods to go below a mid 13. You'll need some sticky semi slicks or slicks as well. Get Falken semi slicks on some 16 inch rims so u can lower the pressure right down to get max rubber on the ground. if u do get big brakes you'll need 18's.

Yeah thats what stopped me now.. the brakes and wheel size thing for slicks.. Havent really though about much drag racing.. If i can get a 13.50 ill be happy.. ill look into slicks when we get to the traction issue on the strip..:P

i must admit i have had an issue with them in the past but i gave up after a while and brought an off the shelf crow cam for my coon,

hopefully you can get it fixed fairly quickly and not get charged for new cams

The car hasnt broken yet!!! I know we all doubted it, but its still running!!!...

And yer, still ironing out a few bugs.. It has good power gains, but not as good as they should be. Dallas is supposed to be examining a few things to see if he can pinpoint the problem, but as we all know.. Dallas could take a year to do this...

Ive been rather busy lately.. No time to even drive the car neverlone sort it out.. Yeah havent done anything for a few weeks and wont get much of a chance for the next two weeks as its still crazy...

Well situation is the car is not running 100% and we cant work out why..

Its runs and drives fine but has a bit of a messy idle and rpm upto about 2000rpm.. after that its fine.. whilst driving it hammers like hell till 5500rpm then just dies in the aasss.. Its ment to pull power well into the 7000rpm mark.. max power so far is 174.1kw


It seems like we are loosing compression. Its has a pop that we cant remove from idle and that whats making us think its got something to do with the valve over lap on the Cams.. We will do a Compresson test on Sat and that will tell the story.. :P

Yeah I had assumed that you had gone with maybe .5mm o/s Pajero ACL pistons to get the 10:1. Its fairly unlikely you have a problem there as the block would of been bored and honed to suit these. I would agree that the top side is probably a better (and easier!) place to start looking.

is blow by not when non combusted air is past through the engine when there's valve overlap, in turbo cars it's especially a dampener as compressed air is passed straight through.

Also i believe all n/a cars with larger cam's have valve overlap

if you're loosing power up top could be the valve staying open too long, or the cam lobe having too long duration. crappy idle is something you will have to just deal with. i doubt with those cams you could ever retain a nice idle

Your popping, is it more a backfire or popping. Maybe check your MAF sensor and get a new oxy sensor, as it could have been messed up!!

Or plugs and leads, just changed mine. Came back from o/s and was running on five cylinders. And you know it was loud before ****e it was sounding like a bloody WRX but with an awesome backfire/pop like a WRC car. It ended up being a lead.

Broke LSD gears today.. Freaken thing happened when i turned into a driveway.. Freaken car.. Think its time to sell and buy a car with more Cylinders and a Turbo(s)..:)
its parked in my driveway and will stay there till mid Jan now till i can get funds. im selling the tyres i put on it today to fix car.. will get it right one day..:)

Mitsiman has said he's seen customer's who have broken their diffs through normal driving, while making the most simple turns. :confused:

Mitsu diffs suck. Why don't they make weak driveshafts instead? Far easier to change than a diff. :rant:

well the fto lsd is a direct bolt in for the magna which was used in the ralliart. so im sure u could pick one of them up alot cheaper some how

something must be going wrong in the build, the driveline or the driver. how many gearbox related failures is that now? 3? Those cusco's should be able to handle twice the power of what your car is putting out. Better get dav on the phone and out of bed to sort something out they shouldnt break so easily.

Tell me about it.. I was driving in a driveway too like a grandma with a low car and big wheels.. was doing like 1/4 of a km/h if that and just coming off the clutch... got no idea why it happened.. Driveway had a hump in it.. Dave reckons one wheel got off the ground and thats why. I put the Cusco in as Dave said they are bullet proof.. didnt think id ever have a drama as i dont give it that much unless im in a straight line.. I know how easy it is to break them when turning.. didnt think a driveway would do it..:cry:

Oh well we had to do a rear main seal so box out to come out anyway..:P

sorry to hear it champ, but modifying magnas suck man there just a money pit, do the engine, do the clutch, do the gearbox, do the diff then straighten the chasis hahahah

i just blew up my gtr box on monday if it makes you feel better my counts

Well i finally got off my lazy ass and started on the car.. its been sitting around for four weeks busted..:)

Had it towed to workshop and i pulled box out.. Got a very big chuck of gear stuck to end of sump plug when i pulled it out.. not looking forward to inside..:P

Well we think its just Side gears in the LSD but time will tell.. ill have it opened up and looked at by this time next week.. gears are around $300 so thats not to bad, its just what other damage that has accured though broken gear bits everywhere..:(

Also Tail lights and CAI will go on while its off the road for the next few weeks.. Dont think we will play around with engine just yet and sort out our loss of compression till later.. got enough to do with box for now..

Today i finally got the news on the diff.. one word to describe it.. Starts with "F" and ends wih "CKED".. You pick a vowel..

Gears inside the LSD Are stuffed as expected but there is also damage to the inner case that im worred about.. With all thats gone on in there its crack the cases on each end so unless RPW can get back to be with a winner i thing its new LSD time.. the gears are all replaceable but i dont thing the case would be..


Been looking at all my options today and best one i came up with was a Kaaz LSD for the magna.. They got one in melbourne ready to go..and is a few dollars cheaper than the Cusco but nothing is cheap when you are talking the $1600-$1700 dollar mark..:(

The Next few days will be the decider but if i replace the diff ill give the Kaaz one a run and see how it goes..

Talk about made of money!!! Think yourself lucky you can afford to buy parts worth another 2 GTR's. You shoulda just saved and get an Porsche GT3 instead, would probably have been cheaper in the long run.

At least you've got another car to drive everyday........ I think after the LSD, my next mod is going to have to be cheap, nasty 4cyl runabout.

These hi-po magnas just aren't reliable enough to drive everyday :nuts:
