My car seems to be at a wits end this year, well actually ever since I had the timing belt replaced.

This morning on the way to work the idle pulley came off with a loud metallic *CLANK*

Not too happy at all, after all the problems I had when the timing belt was changed.

It seems the shaft of where the idle pulley goes through is very bent. Now what what are the supposed causes for this problem? Would it be more likely the belt was overtightened or the case of the idle pulley bearing was on its way out, or something else?

the 14mm nut that holds the pulley on wasn't tightened correctly, and by tightening the drive belt, the shaft bent..... possibly!
