Can anyone tell me if this looks like a faulty coilover. Had a look at dees thread from a while ago and it looks nowhere near as bad but is it the same problem?
They are the sports spec ones.

Personally, that looks like a perfectly normal amount of road grime. It's hard to tell from the pics, but is the oily looking residue wet, dry, or somewhere in between.
Unless it's actually wet, then chances are it isn't leaking (either that, or it's all leaked out so long ago most of the fluid has dried / been washed away).
Dees had quite obviously shat themselves, and she also mentioned that she had noticed for a while the car had felt alot bouncier. If I were you, I'd just keep an eye on it for now.

The bottom part of it in the photo(between the 2 coils of the spring) that is dry and looks like regular road grim.
The darker bit, especially between the middle 2 coils is wet and when you touch it, it comes off like oil.
None of the others have this. They all look like the bottom part of it.
It is the front right coilover.

Yeah, especially since you have to send them to Melbourne to get rebuilt. Everytime I see one of these threads it makes me cringe. I really can't afford to have my car off the road while one of my struts takes a trip down the east coast and back  .

good thing for him his in melbourne lol
I dont think it is.
How far along was it wound?
Looks like the normal clear oil from turning that has now gotten dirty..
Although on the other hand, id take it to a Suspension Specialist and ask them..
