How much is a new (or recon) alternator for a TS 2.6L worth? Repco are after $240. It feels to me like a rip off so I was just after some other opinions....

Goto any auto elec shouldn't cost you any more than $150 changeover. Should also come with a 1-2 year warranty.

$45 at the wreckers down the road from me.

and if the reglator is buggered, you can pick one up from autobarn for $49.

Just reminded me about this wrecker i went to. I asked if they have any alternators for my car. The guys said "gimme a sec ill have a look" He comes back (half an hour later) and sais that i have to give him my old one plus $60. I asked him if their ones have been repaired and he said "no they are just second hand ones"

What the **** ? He wanted my old one + $60 for another one that might last me a week :nuts:

What autobarn are you shopping at? I rang Autobarn at Auburn to ask them if they had them and the response from the dimwit was 'mate.. you'll only get a part like that from mitsubishi'.

Yeh and then probably chuck the alternator you gave him up on the shelf for the next person.

are regulators the black things on the side of the alternator? if its what i'm thinking of, i got one for my old TR for something like 20 bucks from bersons(i don't remember, it was a while ago...)

yes. the little black thing attached to the back side of the alt with the wire coming out is the regulator.
