View Full Version : Is a strut brace worth it now?

Just like a few opinions. I have recently gone for Koni gold's all round and custom sway bars on top of lowered springs front and back..... Has anyone gotten to this point and subsequently installed a strut brace, and if so was there a major improvement?

Apologies for the specific topic, just need a bit of advice.

You have done the really good basic suspension mods.

IF you already have wider/ stickier tyres i.e. 17's or above and you are running sensible tyre pressures, i.e. above 36psi then there may be a case for the front sway bar.

Try this, ONLY if you have lower profile tyres, e.g. 45 series or below.
As you turn into a corner, do you feel that the front is still pushing out, you have to apply a bit more steering lock to turn onto the curve that you want. If you feel this then you have a case for a front strut brace.
If you still have 65 to 55 profile tyres, in my opinion there will be more sidewall flex affecting the suspension than strut tower movement.

I fitted one some time ago, if I had my time again I would have gone for the caster kit first. I fitted a pair of front camber pins and consider that they gave a more marked improvement compared to the strut brace.

BTW, where did you get your Koni "Golds" from, do you mean Yellow Sport Adjustables??

Good to see a comment about tyres vs suspension. So true. Often hear when ppl say that they need no stabilising, cos the car doesn't tilt/roll much at all. Yeah, cos the tyres give in so much that it starts to slide before it actually rolls.
I had my 45s and Sport Ryders before Strut Brace. Installing SB made slight improvement. But rear stabiliser made much bigger improvement after.
