Hi all,
One of the first mods I was thinking of doing was to upgrade at least some of the exhaust. I've been looking around on the site here, and still don't understand exactly where to start or what to expect. I'm looking at basically just trying to add just a little more "grunt" to the sound of the car, instead of the current "whine" that seems to be so common and hopefully get a little performance increase. Plus i'm sick of the back of the car getting dirty from exhaust, since the current muffler sits nearly underneath the back bumper
Anyways, the current exhaust is stock, with the 2 inch piping all the way down, until the end where it reduces to 1.75 inches. I'm thinking of mainly extractors and the end muffler, but don't really know where to start. I don't want the car to be much louder at all, as I do like the quietness - especially when I'm stuck in the traffic, but just having that extra "grunty" sound while accelerating would be really nice. I also am slightly concerned about the loss of low-end torque by increasing the exhaust size, which I read in one of the posts can happen. The low end torque is already fairly abysmal, and I don't want it any worse!
I also recently pulled out that silly silencer thing from behind the air filter, which did change the sound slightly (and changed the air flow enough that it needs an ECU reset again!), but it didn't change much. I've ordered a K&N filter too, which will come on Monday, which I hope will help with the sound and performance a little more. I still do think that I should do some work on the exhaust though.
Any suggestions? I'm new to the whole modding scene, so I really don't know where to start!
Thanks in advance :D
Dave
