I was just thinking, possibly dumb, but here goes

If a person had some really good 6.5" in the front doors and then put complete MDF on the back parcel self and seriously fibreglassed it to the parcel shelf. (or used that bond glue from the glue gun tubes).

Then before this removed the 6 x 9's and replaced them with two small 6' or 8 " subs, but then vented the parcel shelf for air flow, what are your thoughts with the replacement of 6 x 9's for the subs.

Have a good HU with 4 way, possibly an amp.

Just an idea, what are your thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

My first thought is that the parcel shelf will shake to the sh!thouse, so you'll have to do quite alot of sound deadening. As for the idea, could work out well if you do it properly, getting enough air behind the sub is probably the main thing i'd be worried about.

You'd wanna re-enforce the shelf a fair bit.

yeah those shelves have alot fo **** that rattles, SD and fiberglass is the key, you'll also need to build a box underneigh it to enclose the subs (sound alot better than free air) whether they're vented or not depends on the sub, however, the concept seems good, and i rekon would soun wicked for the front seats if tuned right, however, i'd dread to be in the back seat!

The window will last longer than the shelf i bet you. The shelves aren't very thick at all and like righty said they rattle something fierce.
But like i said before, the main problem will be fitting a box underneath, even though there's a hole i'm not sure if it'll be big enough for an 8 inch?

Agreed.
Also you're going to get reflection from the windows aswell, idealy you'd want them facing horizontal so the sub waves move away from the window, rather than them bouncing off the window and around the place.

pair of DD1008 woofers, 18mm parcel shelf with SD between the shelf and the metal, freeair or boxed is your call, they will be loud and quality free air.. they will be better boxed.

would work a treat, im about to do it to a WRX and possibly an Evo :)
