Guys & Gals,
I currently have EBC Greenstuff brake pads. Have found these to be excellent pad in a few areas - excellent braking, very little dust, no noise.

My problem - I have gone through the front set in 14000kms. (Mainly cause I drive the vehicle hard i.e. have only 34000kms on car and now need to get new tyres allround , this will be the secnd time I have done this also!)

My questions...
1. Has anyone tried EBC Red Ceramic? or Bluestuff? if so how did you find them? What rotors are you using them on.
2. Can anyone recommend any other performce pad, that doesn't have much dust, doesn't squeal and actually stops the car.

And no don't recommend Bendix Ultimates - they squeal like stuck pigs.

Cheers

Peter

I've had bendix advance pads on for three weeks now. No complaints here, stop quite well, no noise, little dust. I guess itd be a different story because yours is supercharged, therefore requiring a tad more braking power than my awd lol.

I have ultimates and yes when cold they do squeal(not quite to stuck pig level though). I was looking at going to greenstuff next time. Does anyone know what greenstuff is worth?

They're about $200 or so from memory. I've heard good things about Lucas pads but haven't used them myself. The standard Ralliart pads, whatever they are, work really well. They don't fade and have excellent bite cold and warm.

Cost me $160 for the greenstuff and like i said were a lot better than the bendix or the standard mmal pads that came on the VRX AWD. But for my driving they just dont last.

You're probably going to find that problem with just about any pads, either that or you'll get pads that are too abrasive, and your rotors won't last.

There's generally a tradeoff between stopping power and long life. Looks like you better get used to replacing your pads regularly, and start buying them in bulk to save $$$.

Can I suggest you try "Lucas" pads. They are a passive, high temp, racing pad and seem to last a long time.

How exactly to passive brake pads work??

I'm imagining brake pads with tie-dye t-shirts and flowers in their hair going "Far out car, don't you think you should slow down man? but hey, do whatever you want. It's all groovy"

Passive is a pad which produces heat to change kinetic energy to heat, they also allow the rotor to chew in to the pad.

Aggressive pads actually chew in to the rotor to stop the car.

While both types of pads do both types of do both types of damage/stopping, they are bias one way or the other.

Bendix ultimates are an example of aggressive pads, they will chew in to the rotor to stop the car, this way even if there is a lot of heat, the still just keep chewing. They are a tow pad.

The Lucas pads are passive, they generate heat which is dispersed by the rotor and pads. The pads release dust to disapate heat.

Racing pads are mostly all passive, because they can be designed to operate at massive temps. I got my pads glowing on the weekend at the track, while your standard car pads would have stopped working, I still had another few laps to go!

The Lucas pads are a really great pad. I would almost go as far as to say probably the best street pad I have ever used. I have used them in everything ranging from stock road cars through to high horsepower evos, supras and commodores that get driven very hard. They work well when cold and its almost impossible to get them to fade. We have even had good success using them in racing applications. As mentioned by Turbo Charade they arent too harsh on the rotors either.
The only negative thing about the lucas pads is they do create a LOT of brake dust.
The greenstuff pads are equally as impressive but are a lot cleaner when it comes to brake dust.
The lucas pads are less than half the price of the Greenstuff pads so it really comes down to whether you can deal with cleaning brake dust more often or you want to pay more for pads.

Hmm i have lucas pads and they seem to do a better job than the stock ones. Thats all i got, you wont hear any technical stuff from me, im a noob. :) But i do remember the dude who put them on said they create a lot of brake dust.

I didn't pay a cent over $130 for my Greenstuff. Bought them 2 weeks ago fitting them this weekend.

Imho, the lucas pads perform just a tad less better than the EBC's... although its not too noticeable on the street really. Bang for buck, i'd say definately go the lucas pads... i love mine!! Only downside, is that even with my stock steelies with hub caps (which doesn't leave much gap for dust to escape) get covered in dust in a few hours driving after being washed... so one can only imagine how much worse it would be for alloys.

Mine was installed price (too lazy to do myself - plus have ongoing shoulder injury). As a temporary replacement I have decided to put the Lucas pads on tomorrow, however with be going to RDA cross drilled rotors with Bluestuff pads in about 8 weeks when I have worn out the current rotors and the Lucas pads.
