I got my Gregory's book the other day (i dunno much about cars yet and just got this car the other week) and I was using there instructions on removing fascia, ash tray bla bla to get to the headunit. I have the stock tape unit and want to replace it with a mp3 unit I bought for my old car a year ago.
The 4 screws that hold the headunit in...some of those are rounded...must have been the previous owner who tried to change the head unit. (There are various little mods done on this car so it wouldnt suprise me if he wanted to do the headunit)
Can I just take it to strathfield or seomthing? Will it cost extra because the screw are rounded? Apparently its only something like 60 or 70 bucks (read from an old thread here), is that true?
Thanks

if you follow these instructions:
http://members.optusnet.com.au/miltonf/car/mitsu/console/stereoremoval.htm
and then also remove the two slanted screws on the top of the heater switch cover assembly so that it comes away from the actual heater dials and switches.... you can then get the metal stereo 'cage' out in one piece as such. Then you can put it on a bench and drill out the old rounded screws.

I had the same problem where the screws holding the head unit to the brackets were too tight to undo with a phillps head resulting in the screws starting to round.
However, there is just enough room to grab them with vice grips (clamped extremely tight to prevent them slipping off) and crack the screws loose. I've replaced my head unit twice and found this works a treat and you won't ruin the screws allowing you to do them up again.

Yea I was talking to Benny111111 before, he said there was a bit of play between the screw head and the unit so u could press the bracket in a bit...
Its too dark now though, Ill have a crack this weekend.
