Ok guys, had a search and a read and so far from what I have read, what I am hearing is NOT the thrust bearing because everyone else's symptoms go away when the foot is ON the clutch. HOWEVER, mine STARTS when I put my foot on the clutch - even ever so lightly to just engage the clutch it quitely starts.

What I get is a whirr that must be something to do with the clutch because its when I press the clutch pedal down the whirr starts. Any idea's? After reading I think its not the thrust bearing (even though I'd be more towards thinking the thrust bearing would be used when the clutch is being engaged) but yes. it is getting louder. a lot louder. i want it to stop. i don't want something to break and no - i do not want to spend a lot of money (just bought new suspension and its in the mail).

The magna's don't run a spigot bearing.

Will either be the clutch release bearing or the input shaft bearing. Have seen both wear in the lifetime of magnas. If the vehicle has done a lot of km and has had previous clutch replacements then more than likely gearbox input shaft bearing.

OK so the next thing - is the input shaft bearing something that is expensive to replace?? is it another of those "while you're there you may as well spend big bucks and get other stuff done too"
