So I have a complete 380 manual drivetrain for my project car. What smaller and lighter disc's will fit on the front hubs? Will the rear discs from the AWD magna fit?

I'm not sure whether they'd fit of not, but I'd say that fitting smaller and lighter discs wouldn't be a good idea. The Magna brakes aren't the best to start with, fitting smaller ones would only make them worse....

What is this project car of yours?

As stated above, the last thing you want is to be replacing the brakes with something smaller. If you've got the brakes off the 380 - there's probably dozens of people here who would love to know if they can be made to fit a 3rd gen magna.

AWD rear rotors will not fit a 2WD 3rd gen rear hub.

Nor will they fit the front.

I'm interested what this project car is too.

Yes they will

If I remember correcttly don't the 380s use the twin pot setup off the AWD/ralliart as standard?

Yes they will
You read wrong, or I typed it wrong. I got the impression the OP wanted to bolt some rear rotors to the front, so I was saying they won't fit.

That to me sounds like he wants to put the rear discs from the AWD magna onto the front hubs.

Well going with 'project car' I'd be assuming that it'd be waaay lighter than a Magnalol. I'll also hazard a guess that you're gonna be making it rear wheel drive:think:.

If the pcd is the same as the Magnas (114mm from memory) then the actual disks should slide straight on. Although you'll then have to put on new brake brakets. You may be able to use the brakets from the same car as the disks, or you may have to fabricate new ones.

Sorry I know it's off topic but I just had to share with you guys this "project car" in NZ (and some inspiration to the OP):

Written off STi? Drivetrain still okay?

He's number one, so why try harder

Will the front strut assembly from a 380 fit a 3rd Gen Magna? Got a mate who's putting on coilovers in his 380 and wants to sell his.

project car is in fact a mid engined spaceframe car with 380 driveline in the rear. Brakes are WAY too big for the back. I am tempted to use AWD rear hubs and brakes.
Front brakes are indeed twin pot, discs are large-ish and heavy.

Ahh.. I see what you're saying.

I thought you were saying that the front AWD's wouldn't fit :D

Here's a thread discussing the differences in the AWD and Ralliart rear disks http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37998. The AWD disks have a larger hat height, dunno if this would effect you though, cos you'd be after the caliper too and probably having to make up a braket for it as well.

thanks for that. Since the plans will be available for others, I wanted to resist the need for custom/motorsport components.

Nice project!! :D

A mid engine vehicle seems to be the optimum design for a car.

For other ideas and info, start lurking in US forums like http://club3g.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=13&order=desc

Plenty of project cars there.

yes, it will be some work. Mid engine has some advantages for acceleration, a bugger for almost everything else though. 380 engine and 900kg should be fun.
