Friend of mine got a 97 TE/TF the other day, and for so random reason decided to change the battery. Any now he says it’s not idling properly and needs to be revved to stop it stalling. It's a 3L V6, anyone know what the problem is?

Tell him to disconnet the battery again for a minute or so, then connect it back up turn off all accessorys inlcuding the A/C , start the car and let it idle in for 15 minutes or so,

Had the same problem, i just took mine out for a drive on a long open road for 30mins and it was fine after that, the ecu just has to learn how to idle properly again.

This has been covered a few times.

Like has been mentioned, start it cold, and let it idle until at normal operating/driving temp, then take it for a drive.

The ECU just needs to "re-learn" the fuel/air mix required to keep your car idling.

You don't need the computer re-programmed it does it itself.

Yep, whichever place told you that you need it "re-programmed" is just gonna warm it up in idle while they have a smoke and a coffee and steal your hard-earned money.

haha, our TJ wagon did this after a recent battery change, and sorted itself out too. Much thanks to this forum for the help, too, BTW :)

And the search function works a treat :)
