I have recently replaced the timing chain on my car it was only done by a friend who does not know a lot about cars but felt he could do it with help from a manual. Everything seem to go fine but when it was started there is a loud noise in the motor it sounds like it comes from the top part. So we went and got another head and put it on and the noise is still there. It’s a loud annoying noise that is the same when you moved it into all the gears. The air con was removed and not put back don’t know if that would mean anything. I had someone who knows about timing come in and time it. The noise is sort of rattly, its seems to get hot real quick I don’t know if maybe we have over looked something. If we can’t work it out I will take it to a mechanic but I am hoping that this has happen to someone else and it’s just a simple thing.

Um...... was everything lined up properly when he put the new chain on? you can't just take off the old chain and put the new one on without making sure things are lined up correctly (bit hard to explain and im no expert myself).
How does it drive? have you taken it for a drive or just idled?

The aircon won't be an issue, loud rattling noise sounds like loose chain to me!

Sounds like you made a boo boo in your chain alignments. That could get ugly and really needs to be checked. Any members nearby that could have a listen to it?:)
