Hi Guys,
Ok so currently have super lows on the front, and lows on the back. I still have about a 25mm gap from the tyre to the guard. Thinking about closing this up to 5mm or even zero, so i guess looking to lower it a further 20 - 25mm. Can it be done and can anyone reccomend a company to do this..
Any advise will be apreciated

We arn't talking abuot between your ears :P
Its not recommended that you compress/clamp springs. They are cheap enough to get a decient lowered spring and have a shop fit.

yeah... whiteline do custom springs...... compressing springs isnt clamping them... they raise the temp or the spring and then compress it and re temper the spring... not like coil locks...

Just new to the site - 1st post. Bought a TH Sport a week or so ago, just put some 18 x 8s on it and now looking to lower. Looking on here for advice and noticed people saying prices of $300 - $400 for fitted springs. Everywhere I have had prices from has been $600-$700 fitted. I'm on the north side in Sydney. Can anyone let me know where I can get it done reasonably locally for a good price.
Thanks

Okay but unfortunatly you do end up with the same spring rate, which means a lowered car with a soft spring. It could bottom out and scrub on corners.
King springs are 280 and fitting would be about 100 dollars and im sure people have got them done for much less than that.

yeah but king lows arent going to help this guy he's on super lows already... compress them first will cost $200 drive in drive out... suspension city nth melb!! they do all my work...
You'll need custom springs if you wanna go lower without scrubbing or bottoming problems. They'll be rough as guts but will work. If you just wanna fill out the guards more, why not go the plastic solution and whack some flares on?

**** YEAH!
White walls! For the real pimp inside..
For sure a set of compressed Kings will be fine.. You can get yourself a custom set of springs done etc. All up to the individual in the end!

Sorry to dig up an old topic, but is there any way to tell that a spring has been compressed by simply looking at it, eg does the heating burn the paint or something? I was thinking of getting King Low SPs which are a firmer sports spring with a higher spring rate with only 30mm drop, and then compressing that down to a 50mm drop like regular kings.
Two questions... will I have problems with the spring falling out of its cradle or will compressing it this far not cause any problems? And also will it ride like crap?

The springs are like BLACK!
LOL.. All the sut and stuff from the heating..
Normally yellow/blue/red etc.. But they'll become black.. I've seen guys re-painting their springs and that.. but odd colours like gold, silver, purple etc.
It shouldn't be too much of a problem.. My cousin got King Lows recompressed another 40mm for his Hyundai Coupe and it sits nicely.. Spring hasnt popped outta the strut.. and the ride is WAYYYYY better then the Pedders springs in the Magna..
I say DOOOOO IT!

Why are you comparing 2 different cars in terms of springs popping out and ride quality.
Its commonly known that if you compress the back springs enough (more than lows) that when the suspension travels to full open height it can and will slip out of its supports. Cause you all kinds of wonderful problems.
You dont even have to compress the rear springs to fit them on the strut! when putting them in.

actually...when they retemper them they burn the original paint off them then send them to a dude who re-does powdercoat for you. thats in the factory at king springs anyways. they should be re-doing the powdercoat for you when you drive in and out again. it doesnt take long to do.... about 45 mins to re-coat the lot in one hit. unless the person is shonky or you dont request it. most of the time you have a choice of blue red or yellow for a recoat.

On the set of compressed springs I have on the GTV.. they're all yellow now.. coz we cleaned em!
The original paint was a bit bodge, but it was still there!

Did you get one of your 'cousins' or 'mates' or a friend of a friend to do this for you?
Because they should be re-coated after they are heated and reset.

Nope.. City Suspension did it..

Reason why I asked was I'm lowering the car any amount possible, 30mm is what insurance will let me. Was thinking get the SPs which are a 30mm drop then compress them another 20mm on the sly, if they couldn't tell any check the code on the springs in an accident it'll only be a 30mm drop therefore "legal".
How clean/professional (convincing) does the powder coating look after they've been basically burnt?
Don't need a lecture on the legalities either.
