Hey, as the title suggests, I have located a DOHC 6G74 engine :)
Now do I require a Long or Short Engine? ECU? etc
What power do these things put out anyway?
EDIT: 194kW :)

I believe the MIVEC's were all tippy's. So if you wanted to get all the power out of it and go manual, you would need the engine, reconfigure the ECU to manual (no idea how to do that) AND you would have to make a custom flywheel. The fly on the tippy would be different to that of a straight out manual, and since there were no manuals MIVEC's produced, the whole drivetrain would need to be looked at, in case of issues.
However if you kept the tippy, its easy.

Don't buy it...it's orientated for a 2nd gen. You're looking at a ****load of work to make it fit
I have one sitting in my garage. It will bolt into a 2nd gen, but not a 3rd.
Better off sourcing a DOHC 24v 6G72 MIVEC.
Edit: Just read the post that said you have one lol good work

Nah, not me... I chickened out :D
Meansolara did it and Dave was involved. His car was already manual and wanted to retain that so had some fun with that. We went from a 3.5 back to the Mivec and said that while it definately had more power, it felt gutless compared to the 3.5 off the mark and when towing. If you keep your auto then you probably won't feel any gain from it. Whilst it seems like a great swap on paper, think carefully first but make speak to him.

About how much would you be looking up to for a DOHC 6G74? And about how much would you be looking at for installation, ECU, Gearbox fittings? All that in a 99 TH sports. Or would it be cheaper for just a conversion?

Wasn't a lot of that because they went months without being able to control the MIVEC properly and it was stuck using the short inlet runners? I remember seeing the threads on MOGWA where some dude kept talking about how he was just about to finish the control module and whatnot.

The 6G74 DOHC won't fit in a TH.

Nah, the MIVEC worked fine but the MVIC wasn't being controlled properly however it wouldn't have made much of a difference.

I guess it stands to reason that a 3L has less torque than a 3.5L..

From the specifications I have read the 3.0L MIVEC is within 5-10Nm of the 3.5, but i'm sure the 3.0L will produce peak torque higher in the rev range contributing to the lack of pull down low.
The SOHC 3.0 in 3rd Gens defiantly needs some torque, at 255Nm their pretty weak.

aww.. so this won't fit a 2nd gen? cause i am on the hunt for a new motor for my SOHC 3L in my 2nd gen and was thinking of DOHC conversion....

lol people are getting confused:
24v DOHC 3.5L = 2nd gen configuration
DOHC MIVEC 3.5L = 3rd gen configuration
Though not sure on the diff between the 2 powerwise

Oh... I think you're confused lol
The MIVEC 3.5 is from a Pajero but I don't think that it is suitable from a 2nd gen
The MIVEC 3.0 is 3rd gen compatable
Then there's also 2.5 and 3.0 DOHC's which suit 3rd gens plus 3.0 DOHC which suit's the 2nd gen. Lastly there's a 3.5 DOHC and 4.5l DOHC V8 which we think might suit the 2nd gen (at least I think KB has a 3.5 which suits but he can confirm that)

lol i think i'll just stick to the good ole SOHC, much simpler :).

I don't think the specs were all that great last time i did a search.
*EDIT*
Heres some info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_8A8x_engine
just over 410nm or torque. Guess its not too bad. But that sites says it only came in GDI which won't work over here.

Dont tell me that, i was getting excited lol, although the supercharger would make it roar regardless of its specs!!
