Hi guys,
Thanks for reading

A mate has given me his les than looked after 8/89 magna to look at as it will not run. Problem with power has apparently been apparent for sometime. Now it will start often first turn, but after 10 to 30 it will just stall on its own accord....

Essentially u can start it and let it idle, then it will just stall while just idling. Once i noticed there was very little fuel in the fuel filter (which is new). Given this i was thinking that the problem was possibly in the fuel lines?

If u guys agree it is whats the best way of cleaning fuel lines?

BTW it has a reco carby on it some months ago which initially fixed the problem for 2 weeks before returning.....

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated....

Cheers
Muttsa

im not sure about cleaning the fuel lines, but tell me, what happens if you drive it? or does it stall straight away?

You may have a weak fuel pump?

hey!
well it sorta sounds like wot was happening to me i would start it and it would idel wonky then just stall, then once i reversed it out, just as i go to put it in 1st it would stall again!!. i sorta knew it was the ISC motor and sure enough when it had a service the idel stepper motor was falty so he ajusted the idel up higher till i get it fixed so atm it just revs around 1200rpm but hasnt stalled since but the revs are still up n down due to the idel stepper motor it just does drop to a point where it stalls

hope dis helps ;)

hi guys, thatnks for the replys...

if i drive it it might go 10 yards, it might go 100yards, then it stalls. it might idle for 10secs... or 2mins... then stalls..... when it stalls the fuel filter is empty and only restarts when the fuel filter fills.....

and as i had exactly the same prob with a TM magna and it was apparently rust blocking the fuel lines, i thought it was prolly the same....

what ya rekon???

check the fuel flow from the fuel pump, this is most of the time the problem.

sounds like fuel pump, so no fuel is going to the filter? not sure, but are car filters directional?

Yes they are. still do a fuel flow test first, from memory the carb magna had the in tank low pressure pump. If so there is a "sock" on the pump inlet to pre filter fuel and these also do get blocked causing the exact problem you describe. The dirt settles however as soon as the pump starts drawing fuel it all gets mixed up again and blocks up. I have seen a few common*****s and falcodoors do this in the past.
