Folks,

Dynamat bulk packs are on special from Marty (fhrx) for $230 for 36 sq ft. Best deadener around and enough to do two layers in the doors and do your boot with spare left over.

Deadening and door prep does wonders for any system (even stock), it reduces road noise and lets you hear your speakers instead of hearing your rattles. And I just cant stand people driving around looking like tools with their boots rattling.

his specials dont last very long, so gluck

Peace

Tim

Yeah you probably buy it for $230 on ebay and then only get 30 sq ft and you wouldn't even know.

I got one from Marty, going to put it in tomorrow with the Boston SL-60's that arrived today! Fhrx studios is about the only place I buy all my serious gear at. :D

lmao @ foreign disease.. and nah, my bulk pack arrived last week, and all was well. $210 + $25 postage to WA. its from an ebay store, not risky at all really :) and technically it is supporting the industry.. just because someone makes a lot of sales through the use of ebay doesnt make it any less australian :P

Umm whats rattling most?
From what ive come to understand sound deadner is meant to stiffen the panels making the flex reduced during vibration.....
now i know ive said this a million times before but i got the 4L tub of sound deadner from SCA and used it on my bootlid and roof and just about every rattle is gone.

Question to the audio buffs, for my front doors ive done the inners with the paint on and outers with MDF+Duct tape covered with the jaycar stuff, if i were to to use the Dynamat, how notcieable would the difference be? becuase im not getting a single vibration from the doors atm (im using low power speakers mind you) so im just trying to figure if the difference in price would of been worth it

when sound deading your car your creating a barriar like surface between the inside of your car and the outside or you car. using this keeps the sound coming from inside the car to stay inside the car and helps blocking out unwanted noise coming from outside the car like road noise would be a good example. using dynmat also strengths up your panel so it stops them from flexing every time your speakers kick out a vibration

Well theres a difference between no rattles and no rattles... I have 3 layers of deadening in my doors, and have deadened all my lock rods extensively and I still get rattles at volume. But at listening levels it is solid as a rock.

The stuff is sheets of tar/bitumen with a foil backing. The aim is to reduce the resonant frequency of the metal which reduces rattles and resonance. Its the difference between a door sounding like a rattly tin can (which it is ) and sounding like a solid speakerbox. With a nice bmw thud to ur door as well.

There are many cheaper options, I've looked into them all and tried most with little succcess... Your best bet is a commerical product, Stinger Expert Roadkill/Dynamat/G-Spot.

With boot rattles do behind the number plate and all over the inside of the boot. Once you deaden over an area it will be rattle free... It just rolls on, and you may want to soften it with a hairdryer/heatgun to make it easier to work with.

listening volume....

MAX... but h/u level turned down so pretty freeking loud.. the lil hairs inside ur ear tingle and sweat... is that loud???

rattles.... inside not many... im fine there... outside.... bootlid.... if i push down really hard on it it's fine! numberplate, but i cant hear that from inside...

hopefully this stuff is really heavy too... might get me that 5mm lower that i wanna be too...

hehe yea, if you can push down on the undeadened boot lid of a magna and stop the rattles, it isnt loud :P

had 4 people sitting on my boot and it was still moving a good centimeter :P along with the rear bar.. rear window.. door excursion.. and windscreen wiper excursion :\

but now ive got a weeny JL W6 and all the rattles magically disappeared :D

Does anybody find their car quieter to drive with this stuff when the stereo is off. That is, minimal road noise, rattles, sqeaks etc?

And with those deadening sheets, how do you put it in your doors? Do you simply stick it to the inside of your door trims or against the door skin?

I don't have a real pumping stez but if it makes my car quetier and less prone to flex in the parcel shelf area, I might get some Dynamat.

Thanks

I used this great Tutorial off CAA which has everything you need to know
http://www.caraudioaustralia.com/content.php?contentID=19

As for your bootlid......take the cheap way out...the 4L tub of body deadner will make your bootlid solid as a rock...ask skyts6...or LeGiOnAiR...or_x_FiReStOrM_x_ its pretty damn solid lol

Yep my cars much much quieter, especially at 100ks... With the stereo on full blast it is ridiculously quiet outside... People get quite a shock when I open up the doors...

looks very similar to my doors, except i didn't do the whole MDF hole covering bit... is it really worth it? i did all the metal showing (both sides) and yeah the road noise dropped quite nicely. i was wondering about the sound-off on the inner trim, make much difference?

Yeah thats the angled baffle there in the picture...
http://img369.imageshack.us/img369/7897/rightmidinbaffle21ws.jpg

Since then I've upgraded to Elate 9's and they play much lower... There's a fair bit of power going into them and I had big problems with the trim itself resonating, (sounded like it was about to rip apart)

The paint on sound-off makes the trims like concrete... I also took off all the door cards and painted in there and seperated them with foam. And ran a few strips of thick closed cell foam along the top of the door (where the trim butts up against the inner door skin)

But by far the biggest stopper of rattles was a simple elastic band around the stupid window winder roller... ;)

Is that silver stuff the sound deadening material?
Did you put anything on the inside of the door behind the speaker?
I have serious boot rattle/number plate rattles (15" Hertz) looking at options to fix the problem in the near future though as it is really annoying.

yea silver stuff is the sound deadening.. and there is a lot of it inside the door behind the speaker (and over the entire panel) as well :)

just finished doing mine today and the bass and punch is so much more prominent now! took me a good 5 hours to do driver door, and its interesting comparing the 2 doors.. now i want something like a Ti6 woofer to give me moore punch :D

Geeze 5 hours? Is it a picasso now?

Good stuff...

Yeah there is a layer of deadening on the inside and also acoustic tiles directly behind the driver to minimise reflections
